Days passed. I got my acceptance letter from Sanford City.

The day it arrived, Hunter came to see me.

“Jules, congratulations.”

“Thanks.”

“I’m sorry…”

“Don’t be.”

Hunter looked at me, sorrowful. “Can we… start over?”

“No.”

“Hunter, thanks for what you did back then. And sorry for being a pain. But you made your choice, so don’t look back. Keep the rest of the money for Kat’s medical bills. Don’t call me again.”

I turned and didn’t look back. I had suffered enough in my previous life.

Behind me, Hunter sobbed. “Jules, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

I never saw him again after that.

Rue and I traveled all vacation.

We took hundreds of photos just for ourselves and made a promise to have a girls’ trip every year.
