Betray the Mafia Heiress? You’re Finished. Chapter 01

Not long after the bar girl Cian Barone had been keeping on the side showed up at my door demanding I divorce him, his company got raided, and his entire business empire came crashing down overnight.

The girl who had sworn she would never leave him ran off with every last cent he had left.

All the so-called friends who once called him family blocked his number and avoided him like the plague.

I was the only one who stayed by his side, never once uttering a word of complaint.

I worked three jobs a day, helping him rebuild everything from nothing.

Yet the moment he finally climbed back to the top, she returned.

She wore a wedding band matching Cian’s.

“You’ve always been a loyal little dog, I’ll give you that”, she said to me with arrogance, “but his heart was never yours. No matter what you do, you will never be Mrs. Barone.”

I smiled faintly, then raised my hand and slapped Cian hard across the face.

“Was three years of hell not enough? Do you want to go through it all again?”

He had no idea I was the one who destroyed his career.

I could tear it down once, and I could do it again.

After all, I was the cherished second young lady of the Valenti family, the most powerful mafia family in New York.

The slap landed hard.

Bright red finger marks bloomed across Cian’s handsome cheek.

It took him a moment to register what had happened, and blazing fury ignited in his dark blue eyes. “Hazel Valenti, have you lost your mind?”

I said nothing, only stared at him, searching for a flicker of guilt.

All I saw was rage directed at me, not a shred of remorse.

Elara let out a sharp scream and rushed to his side, standing on her tiptoes to examine the mark on his face closely.

“Cian, are you alright?” her voice shook. She spun to face me, glaring with pure malice. “Hazel! You’re nothing but a stray dog that refuses to leave his side. What the hell is wrong with you?”

“I planned to hand you some money when he filed for divorce, nothing more than petty charity”, she snapped, “but I’ve changed my mind now. As long as I’m here, you won’t get a single cent.”

She looked exactly as she had three years ago, standing on my doorstep and forcing me to sign divorce papers.

Back then, she had Cian’s backing and did not even bother hiding her disdain.

I had not even finished pouring my coffee before she called me a washed-up old witch and demanded I surrender all my assets.

I thought that after she drained him dry and ran off, she’d at least have the sense to lie low.

But no. She was just as arrogant as ever.

Clearly, she was counting on Cian to have her back again.

I turned to Cian beside her with a cold, hollow smile. The warmth in my eyes faded completely.

“Are you divorcing me?”

It was the second time I’d asked him this question in three years.

The first time, he had never given me a clear answer.

He only said, “Hazel, I think we both need some space.”

Then he took Elara, whose face I’d just scratched up, and left. He didn’t come back for two whole weeks.

My older sister Florence Valenti always told me that women of the Valenti family never endure mistreatment.

When a man misbehaves, you do not simply scold him into obedience.

You break him completely, so he never dares to cross you again for the rest of his life.

So I taught him a lesson he’d never forget.

But clearly, he still hadn’t learned a thing.

I let out a quiet sigh.

How could someone be less sensible than my family’s hounds?

Even my dogs knew to wag their tails for a simple treat.

Why could Cian never understand that?

He stayed silent, and I raised my hand to slap him a second time, “Cat got your tongue? You’ve forgotten how to speak?”

“Enough, Hazel! Since when did you become this unreasonable?” He grabbed my arm tightly, squeezing hard, his gaze sharp with unbridled anger. “There’s nothing left between us. You clung to me on your own. I never forced you to stay. Why can’t we end this peacefully?”

Peacefully?

What a joke.

Three years ago, when his empire collapsed, when Elara stole his money and fled, when everyone cut him off, he had nothing left, there he was, a pathetic mess, on his knees in front of me, sobbing as he begged.

“Hazel, you’re all I have left. Don’t leave me, please. I know I’ve messed up, I’ll change everything, I’ll never hurt you again.”

Now that he stood at the peak once more, he wanted to cast me aside again?

The world doesn’t work that way.

Burning pain spread through my arm, and I snatched the wine bottle off the dining table, slamming it against his head.

Glass shattered everywhere, and fresh blood trickled down his forehead instantly.

Panicked screams echoed around me.

Yet I felt utterly alive, every vein thrumming with exhilaration.

I watched as the two of them scrambled to stop the bleeding, a cold smile tugging at my lips.

“Cian, you were the one who started this game. But I will be the one to end it.”
