Reborn to Shine My Ex-Boyfriend Regretted It When I Became the Valedictorian Chapter 04

A few of Kat’s friends called out after me.

“What?”

“What about us? There are so many of us…”

“Yeah, my mom’ll kill me if she finds out!”

I frowned. “Ask Hunter. This isn’t my problem.”

“But you said the deposit was yours.”

“We never would’ve come if we had known it cost this much.”

“Enough!” Hunter roared, eyes red. “I’ll handle it.”

He stepped close to me, voice low. “Jules, I’ll write you an IOU. You can record it. I’ll pay you back.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Deadline?”

“Before graduation. I promise.”

“Fine.” I agreed at once. “Hunter said he’ll write an IOU and pay you all back before graduation. You can leave

now.”

The students bolted.

Kat looked upset, standing off to the side sniffling. Hunter pulled her close. “It’s okay. I’ve got you.”

I buried myself in my studies. Less than four months until graduation, so plenty of time.

After the party, Hunter and Kat weren’t so loveydove anymore.

Hunter paid me back $200,000 over two weeks. He sold most of the gifts he had bought Kat to a

secondhand store.

“Jules, I’m sorry I missed that party. You finally showed some backbone.” Rue grinned.

I hugged her tight. “Rue, you’re the best.”

In my previous life, I stopped talking to Rue after high school. She got so mad at me for obsessing over

Hunter that she moved away. We lost touch. Having her back meant everything.

During lunch, I heard Kat crying around the corner.

“Kat, what’s lost can be replaced. I’ll buy you new things.”

“But Hunter, those were your gifts! I can’t let them go.”

“I know. But… things are different with Jules now. I have to sell them to pay her back. Once I’m done, we can

be together without her.”

Kat cried harder. “Can’t you just apologize? She used to do anything you said.”

Hunter was quiet for a long time. “Kat, I just want to pay her off and be with you. Those gifts were bought with her money anyway.”

“But each holds our memories! I don’t want to lose them.”

“I’ll find another way…”
