“Jules, don’t push it. I’ll apologize for last time. Mess this up, and you’ll never see me again.”

Hunter squeezed my arm hard, his face calm but cold.

“Hunter, what’s wrong?” Kat asked.

Heads turned.

“It’s fine, I’ll just—”

“Hunter says we’re all splitting the cost!” I cut him off, loud and clear.

The room went dead silent. Finally, the manager spoke.

“$480,000 total. With 36 students here, that’s about $13,300 each. How would you like to pay?”

“That’s way too much!”

“What’s going on?”

“Hunter, what is this?”

“Are we stuck here?”

Kat hurried over and clung to Hunter’s arm. “Hunter, what happened?”

Hunter didn’t answer. He glared at me. “Jules, you’ll regret this.”

He threw his supplementary card to my feet. “Jules, I’m sorry about before. We’re even. From now on, you and I are done. I won’t forget this.”

I scoffed, walked around her, and paid my share to the manager.

“I’m done. Can I leave?”

“Sure.”
