Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 12

Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 12

While I was stopped at a red light, Gideon sent me several drawings.

Gideon: [This caused a huge stir at the time, so there are drawings documenting it too.]

I enlarged the images.

The woman in the drawing was withered and gaunt, her entire body covered in sores.

People had placed her on an altar, and she hung there limply like a discarded rag.

There were blood punctures on her neck and wrists, just like mine, only much more obvious.

“Honk, honk!”

The driver behind me honked for me to move.

I stepped on the gas, and tears slid down my face because in another drawing, the woman’s hair had been pushed aside.

She had my face.

Gideon added: [That creature back then seemed to be a black snake. For reasons no one knew, it lost control and bit this woman to death. Marina, in the family photo, you’re the one standing at the lower left, right?]

I replied: [You’re not mistaken. I look a lot like the woman in the drawing.]

The typing indicator appeared on his end.

After a long while, another message came through.

Gideon: [Back then, the whole family brought several occult practitioners to capture him. But after he drank this woman’s blood, he seemed to grow stronger. He broke through the encirclement and vanished into the mountains. Perhaps a reincarnated soul carries the same power. Marina, be careful. I’m on my way back.]

I replied: [Okay.]

I turned and drove back to the estate.

Under the porch light, Finn stood tall and still, his coat draped over one arm as he waited for me.

When I walked closer, his face lit up.

“I thought you weren’t coming back.”

He placed the coat over my shoulders.

I walked inside.

“It’s not like I can get very far.”

He fell silent for a moment, then followed me in.

Neither of us spoke.

As usual, he brought me a cup of drugged warm milk that night.

I pretended not to know and drank it down in one gulp.

If he went more than two weeks without drinking my blood, he would start showing the same true-form traits I had seen that night.

The warm yellow light flickered over my wavering heart.

Finn lifted me onto the soft bed.

Then he slowly moved lower, guiding my legs to bend.

Desire and pain tangled together.

I suspected that if I ever died by his hand, it would be like this, sinking while I was still painfully aware.

“Ah!”

A soft cry escaped me before I could stop it.

Finn lifted his head and asked carefully, “Baby, did I hurt you?”

I shook my head.

He leaned over me and kissed my fingers with something almost reverent.

A tingling sensation ran all the way down my spine.

“I’ll be very, very gentle.

“If I get too rough, say my name, okay?”

I looked into his eyes and let out a sigh so faint it was almost inaudible.

“Okay.”

The image of a male praying mantis being eaten kept flashing through my mind.

For one instant, I even considered letting the same thing happen to me.

Finn was a predator, but he had given me love.

I loved him. Maybe I could offer myself up.

But as my partner, he had also shown me a wider world.

Love mattered.

But being Marina Sullivan mattered more.

Love was not enough to make me give up a life this young.
