I told Finn again and again that I needed space and that he was not allowed to bother me.

He had always indulged me before.

He did now, too, thinking I still knew nothing about what he really was.

I said I was going to Georgia’s place.

He did not dare follow me. Instead, he ran to the study and searched for a long time before bringing out a bracelet that gave off a strange, faint fragrance and putting it on my wrist.

He bit his lower lip almost imperceptibly.

“Otherwise, I’m going with you.”

I had no choice but to hold out my hand.

Only after he put it on did I realize the bracelet could not be removed.

It was probably for tracking me.

I grabbed my bag and headed for the door.

Finn followed and stood there by the doorway, looking at me with that blank, pitiful stare.

He was waiting for a goodbye kiss.

For the first two years, whenever either of us left the house, we always gave each other a goodbye kiss.

But ever since I discovered what he was, I always left in a rush.

When he left, I no longer walked him to the door either.

At first, he had sulked a little. I ignored it completely.

After that, he stopped asking and only looked at me pitifully every time.

“Close the door,” I said coldly.

Then I turned and went downstairs without looking at his expression.

The weather was nice that day, with none of the chill of late fall.

I went to the hospital where Georgia worked. After the exam, I waited in her office.

“What are you planning to do about the baby?

“And why are you suddenly divorcing Finn? For two years, you two were practically attached at the hip wherever you went.”

She fired off two questions in a row.

I smiled. “I’m going to ask a folk exorcist whether I can keep this baby.”

“Since when do you believe in that stuff?”

A nurse came in and handed her the report.

I sat to the side and waited.

Georgia frowned as she read it.

“What’s wrong?” I asked.

She looked up.

“Go do the test again.”
