Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 04

Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 04

A year later, the System appeared again and told me I was not the Female Lead.

I knew praying to every saint and lucky star I could think of every day had to count for something.

The only downside was that I might be carrying a baby of unknown species.

Fortunately, my family had a folk exorcist or two, so there had to be some way to handle it.

As I was leaving with my suitcase, I asked the System, “Once the Male and Female Leads enter the plot, Finn will really forget about me, right? Are you sure?”

“Absolutely. Completely sure.”

I let out a breath of relief.

Once I survived this disaster, I was going to light a candle at St. Jude’s to say thanks.

I would go volunteer in rural communities out West.

I would go help dig wells in Africa.

Perfect timing. Finn had gone to England for business, so he would not be back for a while.

I packed a few emergency supplies as fast as I could and booked a flight to Iceland.

Snakes hated the cold.

Finn hated it even more.

Hopefully, he would know when to give up.

Just as I was cheering, “I’m free,” Finn called me.

“Why are there divorce papers?

“Do you like someone else?

“Who is he?

“I’ll kill him.”

Finn’s voice dropped lower and lower at the end.

I used to think he had separation anxiety and got whiny whenever he could not see me.

Now I realized he had prey-separation anxiety. If he did not keep a little snack near his mouth, he panicked.

He realized he had said the wrong thing.

“Baby, I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”

His voice was thick with tears. “I’m sorry. I was too impulsive. Let’s talk this through.”

I was simply wondering how Finn knew about the divorce papers when I had only sent them to Georgia and my lawyer.

I questioned both of them.

A moment later, Attorney Carter replied: [Mrs. Calloway, I’m sorry. The truth is, I work for Mr. Calloway. He simply paid too much.]

I nearly cursed him out.

I decided to reject Finn cruelly by making up a random excuse.

“You’re like a damn bull in a china shop, all force and no finesse. I can’t take all that rough pounding. Life is short, and I want to go have fun somewhere else.”

He sounded deeply wronged. “I was careful. I was gentle, and I even took private lessons on technique. I thought you liked it.”

I flushed despite myself and replied, “I don’t want to hear it. We’re going our separate ways. Goodbye, and I hope you find true love.”

Please spare one tiny human life.

I hung up before Finn could explain.

As I passed through the living room, Animal Planet was playing on the TV at the worst possible time.

It made me think of the only time I had ever seen Finn shift.

Technically, it had only been a partial shift.

It had been on a full-moon night.

I had come home unexpectedly to grab some documents. Finn heard me and immediately locked the bedroom door.

I was quick enough to catch how he shut the door.

He had hooked it closed with his tail.

A long black tail.

It scared me out of my mind.

I did not know why I was so afraid of snakes.

Ever since I was little, snakes had terrified me far beyond what ordinary human instinct could explain.

The System said Finn and the Female Lead were meeting in England right now, and their relationship would start heating up.

I turned off the living-room TV and patted my cheeks to clear my head.

Freedom. Freedom, here I come.

I had just reached the bedroom to get my passport when I suddenly heard a sound behind me.

Finn, who was supposed to be in England, had appeared in the bedroom.

Dear God, I had not even known he could teleport.

I turned and met his eyes.

I saw that strange color that only appeared when he was either aroused or furious.

“I’ll be gentle from now on, okay?”

I burst into tears and blurted out, “I’ve been terrified of snakes since I was little.”
