Pregnant, Panicked, and Chased by My CEO Husband Chapter 05

The second I finished speaking, a little green viper poked its head out over his shoulder, its sly round eyes fixed on me.

When it heard me say I was afraid of snakes, it seemed to understand. It quickly crawled down from Finn’s shoulder and slipped out into the living room.

At the sight of its slick skin and sinuous little body, I let out a sharp, piercing scream.

Finn immediately shut the door and pulled me into his arms to comfort me, just like he always had.

He was clearly the biggest threat in the room.

I broke free, backed up to the window, and said in a hard voice, “All of you, get out.”

That green snake even poked its head through the crack in the door with a few blades of cat grass in its mouth, chewing away.

It did not look very smart.

When it heard the commotion in the bedroom, it stared at me with its big round eyes as if it were completely innocent.

My tears fell like a broken strand of pearls.

It was already terrifying enough.

The fact that it could understand human speech made it even worse.

Finn panicked, turned around, and shot Green Bean a warning look, motioning for it to leave.

He still did not realize that he was the one I was truly terrified of.

He stepped toward me, trying to hug me.

I climbed onto the bed and quickly ran to the other side of the room.

Finn thought I was angry because he had let a snake inside, so he explained in an aggrieved little voice, “It crawled in on its own because we have cat grass at home. I don’t know why it likes eating that either.”

He strode over, lifted me by the waist, and set me on the bed.

Then he sank to one knee beside the bed and looked up at me.

I noticed the way his pupils shimmered because of his unstable emotions.

When the sunlight hit them, the centers of his eyes looked like a golden universe spreading open.

That was exactly what snake eyes looked like on Animal Planet.

His gaze softened again, and he raised his hand to touch my face.

Black scales kept flashing through my mind. A chill of disgust rushed over me, and I swung my arm hard, smacking the back of his hand.

Finn’s lips trembled almost imperceptibly, but then he forced out an obedient smile.

“If you don’t like it, I’ll send it away right now.”

Holding back my fear, I shrank farther onto the bed.

My gaze burned, and my words came out merciless.

“It’s not that I don’t like snakes. I hate them. I hate them more than anything.”

When I was little, our teacher showed us an Animal Planet documentary in class.

A snake swallowed a live mouse, and its belly kept twitching.

I threw up after watching it and had nightmares for a month. Even now, whenever I think about it, I instinctively feel sick.

The moment I said that, his movements froze.

His dark lashes trembled faintly. His gaze dropped to my ankle, and an indescribable loneliness settled over his face.
