My Billionaire Husband Lost His Memory, and I Left With His Child Chapter 06

Mrs. Whitmore’s eyes were red. For the first time in front of me, she looked like she was pleading.

She took my hand, her voice trembling. “Olivia, I’m sorry. I was wrong. Please, help me this once. Stay with Adrian and help him get through the rest of his treatment, all right? I’m begging you.”

I was silent for a moment. Then I nodded, my throat tight. “Okay.”

I took Adrian’s hand and followed Dr. Lawson.

The wound in his palm had been roughly bandaged.

Before long, a faint stain of blood seeped through the white gauze, but he acted as if he didn’t feel it at all.

Leo sat quietly in his uninjured arm, not making a fuss. He leaned against Adrian’s shoulder and studied the side of this unfamiliar man’s face with open curiosity.

When we entered the exam room, Adrian had barely sat down before Leo turned toward him.

He reached out with his soft little hands, cupped Adrian’s face, and looked left and right. Then he compared their reflections in the mirror on the wall for a long while.

He tilted his head, his eyes bright, and asked seriously, “Mister, why do you look so much like me?”

Adrian froze for a second.

Then he smiled.

He gently held Leo’s hand, his voice hoarse and soft. “You look like me. Because I’m your dad.”

Dr. Lawson came in with a nurse carrying a tray and cleared his throat. “Mr. Whitmore, we need to get your brain scan done.”

Adrian hummed in acknowledgment and let the nurse disinfect and re-dress his wound.

The whole time, his eyes never left me, as if I would vanish on the spot the second he blinked.

I stood beside the bed, pinned in place by that gaze, unable to move even one step.

In the end, Leo was the one who broke the silence first. He patted Adrian’s arm. “You have to listen to the doctor. Mommy said when you’re hurt, you have to get better fast.”

Adrian lowered his eyes to him. “Okay. I’ll listen to you.”

The examination took nearly two hours.

Right up until the scan began, Adrian kept gripping my wrist tighter and tighter.

Only when Dr. Lawson brought the report in did Adrian finally seem to relax.

“The clot is clearing much better than expected,” Dr. Lawson said. “It’s only a matter of time before his memory fully returns.”

He held the scans up to the lightbox and added, “But he needs to keep his emotions stable and avoid any major stress or shock.”

Mrs. Whitmore stood at the doorway and listened to all of it. Holding the doorframe, she finally relaxed.

On the day Adrian was discharged and returned home, the first thing he said to Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore after walking through the door was, “I’m getting a marriage license with Olivia. And we’re having a wedding.”

His hand was wrapped tightly around mine, leaving no room for discussion.

Mr. Whitmore froze.

Mrs. Whitmore’s smile also stiffened. She set down the things in her hands and sighed. “Your wedding date with Vanessa is already set. The invitations from both families have gone out. Now you want to replace the bride just like that? What is she supposed to think? What is her family supposed to think?”

Adrian turned his head and looked at me, his gaze dark and steady. When he turned back to them, his voice had gone colder.

“When you drove her away while I had amnesia, did you ever think about how she was supposed to feel?”

Seeing Adrian stand in front of me and say those words made something in my chest suddenly ache.

How had I lived all these years?

I had gone to prenatal checkups alone with my belly growing bigger every day. On the day I gave birth to Leo, the pain nearly tore me apart, and all I could do was bite down on a towel and endure it.

Later, he grew up. He learned to walk. He learned to talk.

When people asked where his father was, he said having his mom was enough.

But the truth was, he needed a father just as much as any other child. He was only afraid I would be sad.

I lowered my eyes. Leo had been so little back then, yet he had already learned how to protect me.

The living room fell silent for two seconds.

Mr. Whitmore was about to speak when Alex hurried in from outside and leaned in to whisper a few words in his ear.

Mr. Whitmore’s expression changed instantly. He jerked his head up and stared at Adrian. “You actually took control of all the shares?”

The corner of Adrian’s mouth lifted. “All the company shares are under my name now. It’s time this family listened to me.”

He paused, then said, “I’ll arrange the wedding myself. The biggest one possible. I don’t need anyone’s permission.”

Just then, a commotion came from the doorway.

Vanessa walked in, holding the hand of a little boy who looked about four years old.

She came quietly to stand in front of us, then dropped straight to her knees.

The little boy beside her was pulled down with her. He stumbled and knelt too, looking around at the adults in the room in confusion, too scared to speak.
