My Billionaire Husband Lost His Memory, and I Left With His Child Chapter 01

I had been born a little foggy, drifting through life as if I were always half a step behind everyone else.

So when Adrian Whitmore first forced his way into my life and insisted on keeping me by his side, I thought he was just playing some strange game.

Every time I failed to run away and he caught me again, I would give him a thumbs-up.

“You’re getting really good at hide-and-seek. I only hid for half an hour, and you still found me.”

And just like that, in my own confused, slow-moving way, I spent three whole years playing cat and mouse with him.

Until today, when I got nauseous, threw up, and found out I was pregnant. I took the report home, planning to tell Adrian, who had once been diagnosed as infertile.

But then he got into a car accident and lost his memory.

His childhood sweetheart, Vanessa Hale, cried as she blamed me. “If he hadn’t been rushing back to celebrate your birthday, none of this would’ve happened.”

“He’s forgotten you completely. I’m begging you, please stop clinging to him.”

I walked away slowly. After a while, a dull ache began to pull at my lower abdomen.

I kept feeling like I had forgotten something.

Whatever. I would remember eventually.

I stood under a streetlight for a moment and scratched my head.

Then I remembered.

I turned around, walked back, and pushed the door open again.

I poked my head inside and held out my wrist, revealing the silver-gray tracking bracelet fastened around it.

“I left in too much of a hurry and forgot about this. Could you help me take it off?”

Vanessa lifted one brow, hesitating. “What is that?”

I explained calmly, “A tracker. It’s paired with the one on Adrian’s wrist.”

“If you don’t want me appearing around him again, you’ll have to get this bracelet off me first.”

Adrian had insisted that I wear the matching tracker. I had never thought it was a big deal. It was not as if I had planned to run somewhere he could never find me.

But things were different now.

He had forgotten me.

Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore’s faces changed slightly. They exchanged a look.

Vanessa clenched her fingers and turned to Alex. “Did you know about this?”

Adrian’s assistant looked deeply uncomfortable. He stammered for a moment before answering.

“Mr. Whitmore gave strict orders that the bracelet was never to be removed. We never even prepared a way to remove it. If we force it off, it’ll break.”

Mr. Whitmore slammed his hand on the table, his voice dropping. “This is absurd. He’s a grown man, and he’s doing things like this? If word got out, what would people say?”

He turned to the assistant. “Call someone to remove it. Now.”

A technician arrived quickly. The process was simple and brutal. He took a pair of bolt cutters and forced the bracelet open.

Vanessa took both bracelets and tossed them into the trash without a second glance. “There. You can leave now.”

I had just reached the door when a hoarse murmur sounded behind me.

“No… don’t go…”

I stopped and looked back.

On the hospital bed, Adrian’s eyes were closed tight, his brows drawn together.

Vanessa rushed forward and grabbed his hand. “Adrian, I’m here. Don’t be scared.”

As she spoke, she turned and shot me a look.

“Hurry up and leave.”

Mr. and Mrs. Whitmore stepped to either side of me and guided me out of the room.

Once we were outside the room, Mr. Whitmore handed me a check.

“The Whitmore family won’t shortchange you on what you’re owed. But you and Adrian are not from the same world. His wife can only be Vanessa.”

“We’ll choose a child from an adoption agency and let Adrian and Vanessa raise him together.”

“Every trace of your existence will be wiped clean. From now on, this has nothing to do with you.”

It was not until I reached the airport that the sadness finally caught up with me.

Adrian used to say I was stupid. But I was not stupid. I was only a beat slower than everyone else.

Now he was the one who was truly stupid. He was the one whose brain had been knocked around in the accident.

I crouched in front of the boarding gate and dry-heaved for a long time. When I finally straightened up and wiped the corner of my mouth, the thought slowly came back to me.

Oh.

I forgot to tell them I was pregnant.

That doctor had misdiagnosed him.

Adrian could have children after all. They didn’t need to adopt an heir.
