I Waited For My Mother’s Blessings, Only To Find She Gave All Her Luck To My Sister Chapter 06

Because I was still grieving Daisy, I had no heart for traveling.

Our destination wedding, originally set for fifteen days, ended after just three, and Morris and I flew

straight to France.

Morris’s grandmother’s family was there.

Knowing how devastated I was, Morris took gentle care of me the whole way.

When we reached his grandmother’s estate, the person opening the door took me completely by

surprise.

Rhonda Knight, Morris’s mother.

I turned to look at Morris. He offered a warm smile.

“When my mom heard we weren’t going back, she threw a fit until we let her tag along.”

He paused, quickly adding, “But don’t worry, we’re only staying here for a few days.”

“Once we get our residency sorted and buy a house we’ll move right out. I won’t force you to live

with my family long–term.”

Before I could speak, Rhonda put her hands on her hips and glared at Morris in annoyance.

“Listen to you blabbering like an old nag!”

I glanced over at her. The second her eyes met mine, her expression flipped into a warm smile.

The transformation was astonishingly fast.

She took my hands in hers enthusiastically, her eyes brimming with approval.

“My son actually inherited my great taste! What a beautiful wife!”

“Come in, come in! This is our first meeting, and I’ve prepared so many gifts for you!”

Before this, I had only heard about Rhonda through Morris.

I had never met her in person.

Her warmth was overwhelming.

I cast an amused glance toward Morris.

He just waved his hands in resignation. “She calls me talkative, but I got it straight from her. Go on,

my mom’s great.”

“Come!” Rhonda was like a burst of fiery warmth. “Come with me! I can’t wait to see your face

when you see what I’ve got for you!”

I let go of Morris’s hand.

In the next second, Rhonda dragged me down the hall like a runaway train.

Behind us, Morris shook his head with a fond laugh

Rhonda brought me to a master bedroom suite with a massive walk–in closet.

She covered my eyes, then pushed the door open dramatically.

“Ta–da! A dedicated walk–in closet filled with full–season outfits and jewelry–something no woman

can resist!”

I opened my eyes.

Racks of clothing lined the walls, spanning spring through winter, alongside rows of shoes and

designer bags.

I remembered how back home, Mom only bought me new clothes once a year during the holidays.

A warmth spread through my chest.

Even though we had just met, I realized Rhonda was an unstoppable chatterbox.

Even if I didn’t reply, she could happily carry on a full conversation by herself.

When I thanked her, she waved it off dismissively with a mysterious grin.

“This is nothing! There’s more!”

I blinked in surprise as she dragged me straight to the next room.

The moment she opened the door, a dazzling sparkle made me squint.

Rhonda’s excited voice rang in my ear.

“Three days ago, my son told me some clueless idiot stole your wedding dress!”

“I hired a top designer overnight to custom–make a new one! Knowing you were coming, I paid extra for rush labor to finish it before you arrived!”

“Well? How is it? Isn’t it ten thousand times better than the one you wanted before?”

The dress displayed in the center was magnificent, featuring a thirty–foot train embroidered with

countless glittering diamonds.

It was breathtakingly gorgeous.

A lump rose in my throat, my eyes stinging with warmth.

“It’s beautiful… Thank you, Mrs. Knight.”

Rhonda frowned. “Don’t call me that! It makes me sound ancient. Just call me Mom, like Morris

does.”

I nodded. “Mom.”

Rhonda beamed in satisfaction. “That’s more like it

“Now for the final gift! Follow me.”

She led me down to the garden with an air of mystery.

Underneath a large tree sat a crate covered with a black cloth. I had a vague guess as to what it

was.

Rhonda pulled off the cloth, revealing a golden retriever sitting calmly inside.

Rhonda launched into an enthusiastic introduction.

“This is Goldie, she’s a trained companion dog! She’s sweet and obedient. With her around, I guarantee you’ll be smiling again within a month!”

As if understanding her words, Goldie puffed out her chest proudly and let out a soft bark.

My heart melted completely.

Looking at Goldie felt like seeing Daisy again.

I knelt down and gently patted her head.

Goldie leaned in sweet–temperedly, nuzzling her snout into my palm.

A bitter ache surged up my nose.

Standing behind me, Rhonda spoke in a much softer voice.

“Hailee, Morris told me everything.”

“It doesn’t matter if your mother mistreated you. From now on, I’m your mother.”

“Every bit of suffering and favoritism you went through, I’m going to make up for it. Now that you’re

part of the Knight family, get ready to be spoiled.”

Something inside me finally gave way.

The tears I had held back all this time finally spilled over, streaming down my

Rhonda wrapped her arms around me and gave me a firm kiss on the cheek.

“What’s with the tears? A girl’s prettiest when she’s smiling!”

A laugh broke through my sobs. She laughed too.

In that moment, I felt genuinely happy.

Until one day, the doorbell rang.
