I Waited For My Mother’s Blessings, Only To Find She Gave All Her Luck To My Sister Chapter 01

I Waited For My Mother’s Blessings, Only To Find She Gave All Her Luck To My Sister Chapter 01

My mother was a witch whose words were worth a fortune. She sold only one blessing a month.

A near-bankrupt businessman bought a single sentence, and his stock hit record highs the next day.

A childless billionaire bought one incantation, and soon had an heir.

Yet growing up, Mom only ever spoke half a spell to me.

When I was applying to colleges, she shook her head lightly. “If you apply to…”

I sat up all night, misread her intent, and missed out on my dream school.

Later, my sister Charlee Vaughn, whose grades were nowhere near mine, ended up taking my spot. She just smiled shyly. “Guess I got lucky.”

After graduation, a prestigious multinational firm reached out to me.

Mom gave me a cold, emotionless warning. “There’s something off…”

I believed her. I turned them down and joined a dead-end company with endless overtime.

Charlee took that corporate job instead, easy work, great pay.

Three days before my wedding, Mom looked at my fiancé and again spoke only half a sentence. “This happiness won’t last forever…”

Tossing and turning that night, I walked past Charlee’s room and heard Mom speaking softly inside.

“May you and Darrell grow old together and be blessed with a full family.”

“May you live a long, healthy life, free of sickness and disaster…”

She recited blessings all night.

I stood outside her door and listened all night.

By the time my tears ran dry, I finally understood. It wasn’t that Mom couldn’t bless me.

She had given all her magic and all her luck to Charlee.

To me, she left only half-spells to siphon away my luck and feed it to Charlee.

If she couldn’t even spare me a blessing, then she had no place in my future.

Mom stepped out of her room and spotted me, a flash of surprise in her eyes.

Growing up, I’d learned to read her every micro-expression, since she rarely spoke to me.

Before my brain could process it, the words slipped out of my mouth. “I didn’t hear anything.”

Mom gave a faint nod and said nothing.

Charlee came out right behind her.

“Hailee, why are you standing there?” She sighed. “Our fiancés are coming over tomorrow. Mom hardly says anything, so I wonder if she’ll even like them.”

I pulled my lips into a bitter smirk.

If I hadn’t spent the entire night listening to her pour blessings onto Charlee, I might have actually believed.

Looking back, Charlee always had good luck at every major turning point in her life.

She got into my dream school with mediocre grades.

She landed a top corporate job without an impressive resume.

How much of that so-called luck was actually engineered by our mother?

A short while later, my fiancé, Morris Knight, and Charlee’s fiancé, Darrell Watts, arrived together, carrying arms full of gifts.

The moment Morris saw Mom, he offered a bright smile. “Hello, Mrs. Vaughn!”

Mom glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and ignored him completely.

Before coming over, I had already warned Morris that Mom rarely spoke.

So he didn’t take it to heart—he just smiled even wider and made a point of waiting on her hand and foot, doing his best to impress her.

When Darrell stepped up to greet her, however, Mom instantly cracked a smile.

She spoke—and her tone was almost doting. “Darrell, is it? You’re a good boy. You and Charlee are going to be very happy together.”

People were willing to pay millions for a single blessing from her. Every blessing she spoke came true.

Hearing that, Darrell immediately shook her hand with deep gratitude. “With your blessing, Charlee and I will definitely have a great life! Thank you, Mrs. Vaughn!”

Charlee blushed shyly.

Mom’s voice turned teasing. “Still calling me Mrs. Vaughn?”

Darrell caught on instantly, beaming. “Mom!”

“Good boy!”

In that moment, she was just like any ordinary mother.

Her long-standing rule of granting only one blessing a month suddenly seemed to mean nothing.

Morris was still holding a freshly poured cup of hot coffee.

Watching the scene unfold, he froze, completely at a loss, barely noticing how hot the cup had become.

He walked over to me quietly, his eyes filled with confusion and self-doubt. “Hailee… does your mother dislike me?”

I clenched my fingers tight, fighting back tears.

It wasn’t that she disliked him.

She disliked me.

Morris gritted his teeth. “Maybe she just didn’t hear me earlier.”

He stepped forward again, offering the cup. “Mrs. Vaughn, please have some coffee.”

The moment she heard his voice, Mom’s smile vanished and her lips pressed shut—snapping back to the cold, familiar face I’d known my whole life.

The silence stretched on.

Morris held his position, bending forward until his arms began to tremble. Mom never reached for the coffee, nor did she say a word.

Charlee stepped in to smooth things over, taking the cup from Morris with a smile. “This is really expensive coffee…”

Before she could finish, she let out a sharp cry. “It’s burning!”

The cup slipped from her hand and shattered on the floor, leaving Morris and me speechless.

Mom didn’t even glance at the mess.

She grabbed Charlee’s hand and rushed her straight to the sink. “How could you be so careless!”

Listening to her chatter endlessly in the kitchen about making sure Charlee’s burn healed quickly, Morris walked over to me with his head low, forcing a bitter smile.

“Guess your mom really doesn’t like me.”

I took his reddened hand in mine, and a bitter ache tightened in my chest.

“Nothing is going to change the fact that we’re getting married in three days.”

“Morris, after the wedding, let’s never come back here again. Okay?”

Something in his eyes shifted—understanding, then a deep ache for me.

“Okay.”
