I finished speaking quickly and felt my face start burning.

Luca looked slightly stunned.

Then he recovered fast.

He chuckled softly. “You can really make stuff up.”

His expression changed suddenly, like he’d remembered something terrible.

His eyes darkened.

“You know I think kissing is the most disgusting thing, right?”

Pure panic took over. I decided to gamble.

I said boldly, “That’s because you haven’t kissed me yet.”

“If you don’t believe me, then kiss me!”

Something flickered in Luca’s eyes.

His gaze dropped to my lips.

I tried to look unbothered on the surface, but inside I was freaking out.

What if he actually kissed me?

Should I dodge or let it happen?

If I dodged, the lie would be exposed.

If I didn’t, I’d be taken advantage of and still get exposed.

I hoped he would back off.

But he kept looking at me, leaning in slowly.

My whole body went rigid. My brain went blank.

My heart pounded like a drum.

Luca tilted his head as he moved closer. His breath brushed the bridge of my nose.

Our lips were only a few centimeters apart.

My hand twitched.

“Huh. Not a chance.”

“You think I’d fall for that and actually kiss you?”

Luca suddenly pulled back, laughing at how flushed my face had become.

“That’s how you made the future me fall for you, right?”

“I’ll admit it. You’re quite the schemer.”

My tightly wound nerves finally relaxed.

But hearing Luca’s words left me confused.

How exactly did I make him like me?

He even used the word “scheming”?

I frowned, thinking.

To Luca, it looked like disappointment after a failed plan.

He stood up and looked down at me.

He clicked his tongue. “You really like me that much?”

“I have a basketball game this weekend. Come bring me water.”

And just like that, my nice weekend was hijacked.

I wanted to refuse but had to stay in character.

After lunch that weekend, I waited until the hottest part of the afternoon passed before slowly riding my bike to the gym at St. Gabriel’s Academy.

Surprisingly, the place was packed.

In the crowd, I spotted the female lead, Celia, sitting in the front row.

To understand why her redemption mission kept failing, I decided I should become friends with her first.

I sat down in the empty seat beside her and greeted her.

She blinked, then smiled back.

“You’re here to cheer for Luca?”

The sparkle in Celia’s eyes screamed gossip.

I nodded.

She gave me a knowing look.

Since the female lead was here, the male lead had to be too.

Sure enough, I spotted Elias in a white jersey on the court.

I also saw Luca with a black headband, eyes sharp and intense.

He shot me a glare.

“Who understands? Luca has been waiting for Ivy the whole time, glancing at the stands every few minutes.”

“He told her to stay away, but when she actually did, he could not admit he was upset.”

“And this game is exactly where the villain and the male lead first become enemies.”

“The female lead’s later failure to complete her redemption mission is also connected to the villain.”

I remembered now.

In the original plot, Elias won this game.

Not only did Luca lose, but Elias indirectly caused him to fracture a bone in his hand during the fight.

Luca never let an offence go. After being publicly humiliated and injured, he developed a deep hatred for Elias.

He kept sabotaging him afterward.

The first act of revenge was making Elias miss the SAT and college application deadlines.

Terrifying.

But why did the comments say the female lead’s redemption mission failed because of Luca?

Could they be any more specific?
