At halftime, Luca walked straight toward me.

Without saying a word, he held his hand out.

I was confused. “What?”

Luca frowned, his expression darkening immediately.

I silently reached up and hesitantly took his hand.

Luca paused for a second, then swatted my hand away.

I got annoyed. “What’s your problem?”

“You didn’t say anything. I can’t read your mind.”

Luca spoke coldly, “Water?”

I pointed at the full case nearby. “There’s a whole box right there.”

Luca stared at me. “Didn’t you say you’d buy me water?”

Crap.

I forgot.

I quickly made up an excuse. “I forgot to bring money.”

His gaze dropped to my phone.

I kept going. “My payment app balance is empty.”

“I’m not lying. I didn’t even have money for the bus, so I rode my bike here.”

Luca let out a mocking “Hah,” like he was both angry and amused.

I didn’t care. “Sorry for showing you how broke I am.”

Even one bottle of water costs money.

I’m not actually into him, and I’m not rich. Why would I spend on him?

I joked, “How about you send me some?”

I waved my phone in front of him.

Luca stared at me for a moment, then walked over to his bag.

He took out his phone.

When he came back, he showed me his payment username.

I glanced at him, surprised he was so cooperative.

Right after we exchanged payment usernames, Luca sent me a four-figure amount!

I counted the zeros, eyes sparkling.

I asked uncertainly, “This is a gift with no strings attached, right?”

“Obviously. You’re this happy over that little bit? Did the future me not give you enough money? You look like you’ve never seen cash before.”

Whatever.

He gave me a lot, so I wasn’t mad.

I immediately ran and grabbed a bottle of water, then handed it to Luca.

His face darkened again. “This is how you treat me?”

“It’s really hot outside. Going back and forth would waste a lot of time.”

“Plus I didn’t want to miss you playing. You look so cool out there!”

I unscrewed the cap. “See? I still brought you a bottle. That counts.”

Luca looked at my smiling face, took the water with obvious reluctance, and drank a few sips.

I kindly pulled out a tissue for him.

He grabbed the towel around his neck instead. “No need.”

Fine by me. Saved me a few tissues.

If it weren’t for that four-figure transfer, I wouldn’t have bothered.

I looked down at the amount on my phone and couldn’t help smiling.

Having money in my account felt so good.

I lifted my head with a satisfied grin.

Luca was watching me with a strange look in his eyes.

He handed me the half-drunk bottle. “Hold this for me.”

“You just wanted my contact info.”

“You didn’t need to go through all these ridiculous tricks.”

“They weren’t even convincing.”

The second half of the game remained neck and neck.

Luca’s team lost, just like in the original plot.

His expression was dark and sullen.

Right then, one of the opposing players flipped Luca and his teammates off and started taunting them.
