I Jumped With Her She Landed in My Husband’s Arms Chapter 05

I Jumped With Her She Landed in My Husband’s Arms Chapter 05

Ezra’s men kicked all the doctors away.

Ezra rushed to me and pulled me into his tight embrace. “Audrey, don’t close your eyes. I’m here. I’m taking you

home.”

“I’m sorry I’m late. You have to get better so you can yell at me. I failed to protect you.”

He tried to have his personal doctors give me emergency care.

I held onto his sleeve with my last bit of strength. “Ezra, I was

wrong… I want to go home…”

I just needed to get out of this horrible place as fast as

possible.

Ezra nodded through tears and lifted me in his arms, carrying

me outside.

At the same time, Vincent jolted back to his senses from the

loud crash. He’d been moments away from being intimate

with Kaylee outside the door.

He stood up quickly and started toward the examination room.

“Is Audrey okay?”

He sounded concerned, but Kaylee grabbed his sleeve.

Her cheeks were flushed, her lips glistening, her voice sickly

sweet. “Vincent, it’s almost midnight. Do you actually want to ruin our first night together?”

“Besides, don’t you think she’s being way too dramatic?”

“It’s not even a big deal. I specifically told those doctors to be gentle and not hurt her. I just wanted to confirm that you haven’t touched her these past three months.”

“It’s not like it’s anything major. She’s acting like I’m trying to destroy her or something. And now she’s making this huge scene. You really think if you walk through that door, she won’t just turn on the waterworks and play pitiful?”

Kaylee pressed a hand to her chest and sighed, tears glistening

at the corners of her eyes.

“Fine. I’m the villain. I’ve been called a home–wrecking little mistress by your whole family all night, and I deserve it, right?”

“I was ready to give myself to you tonight. I wasn’t even trying to make things hard for her. After all, she’s the one who’s been with you all these years.”

“She was the one by your side before I came along. I should be thanking her, really.”

Every word she spoke sounded so understanding, so pitiful. Anyone would have felt sorry for her.

Vincent stopped in his tracks.

He hesitated.

This was a night he had been waiting for–for a very long time.

He had poured all his energy into winning Kaylee over, going out of his way to make her happy in every possible way.

He just kept throwing money at everything.

He’d given her the best of everything.

Because he saw in her the girl I’d been at twenty–two. That

was the year we first met.

I was bright, alive, breathtakingly beautiful. Nothing like the woman I was now, worn down by Yreuford’s cruelty.

Now I was dull, quiet, like still water.

But that radiance I once had captivated him. He’d missed it

desperately.

The passion was long gone between us.

But he’d never stopped missing the twenty–two–year–old me.

Then he met Kaylee when he’d grown tired of the woman I’d

become.

It was like a man in the desert finding an oasis.

The same light shone on him.

So he’d fought to keep it.

But Vincent couldn’t deny that in his heart, I would always

have a place.

No one could ever truly replace me.

So he hesitated for only a moment.

When the commotion from inside the examination room grew louder and louder, he finally lifted his foot and rushed through the door.

Thinking of Kaylee’s malicious guess about me, he even defended me. “Don’t think of Audrey that way. She’s not like

that.”

At least for these seven years, I had never once played the

victim in front of him.

I’d swallowed all my pain and hardship in silence.

No matter how much pain or hurt I carried, the moment I

stepped through the door of that tiny basement and saw him, I

never said a word.

I only smiled.

That was why, in the beginning, he found this game of being a struggling couple so entertaining.

It started as a test–to see if I was with him for his money.

Then it turned into a source of amusement. And later, the lie

went on for so long that it became a habit. He just kept hiding everything from me without even thinking about it anymore.

“It’s my fault for not handling this between you two. When

this is over, I’ll make it up to both of you.”

“Kaylee, you’re sweet and understanding. Audrey just can’t

accept this yet, so she might act out. Please put up with it for

me, okay?”

Kaylee could only nod obediently.

But Vincent didn’t see her hands clenched tight behind her

back.

Her fingernails were digging into her palms hard enough to

bleed.

Yeah, right.

She had strung Vincent along for four years.

She had only just made sure that he couldn’t live without her.

She’d never wanted to be just a mistress.

She wanted to be Mrs. Larson.
