Then the messages in the group chat stopped.

I saw a news report that Vincent’s grandfather had been rushed to the hospital in a fit of rage.

Not long after, Kaylee called me.

She screamed and cried into the phone. She asked if I was the one who had lured Vincent away from her.

I was at the hospital waiting for my test results, and I cut her off before she could say anything worse. “If you don’t want photos of you and Vincent, plus my marriage license, posted on Yreuford University’s forum, shut up.”

I was dragged away, a hand over my mouth, and our marriage certificate fell out of my pocket.

I watched him bend down and pick it up, then tear it to pieces without a care. “Wow, you’ve been carrying this fake thing around this whole time.”

That was the final blow to my heart. On the verge of passing out, I sank into utter despair.

They handled me roughly.

I was strapped down to the examination table, my legs forced apart.

When they finally freed my mouth, I screamed with every ounce of strength I had left, “Vincent, I’m pregnant! You can’t…”

But all I heard was him and Kaylee kissing passionately.

“Is this enough, sweetie? What else do you want her to do? She’s not well. If you want to punish someone, punish me instead, okay?”

A cold medical instrument was pushed inside me, and searing pain shot through my body.
