I Jumped With Her She Landed in My Husband’s Arms Chapter 01

During the Labor Day holiday, hoping to earn a little extra m0ney, I took on a side gig as a skydiving pep-talker, even though I was severely acrophobic.

I met a young girl who was also terrified of heights.

To calm her nerves before the jump, she talked to me nonstop.

That was when I found out she had come to try skydiving because she didn’t have the courage to say yes to a wealthy heir of a powerful family in Yreuford.

“He’s been so good to me. He flies in fresh produce, buys me limited-edition luxury cars, and even bought an entire hospital when I scraped my finger.”

Though she sounded scared, her words were actually full of sweet, giddy bragging.

I assumed she was just worried about the gap in their social status, so I told her how I’d given up my family inheritance to be with my husband.

And after we got together, how I scraped by to save m0ney: rummaging through the market for discarded wilted vegetables at closing time, taking the cheapest late-night bus, and even enduring a broken bone for three months without seeing a doctor…

“So love conquers all. Be brave and go for it.”

She nodded at me and broke into a bright smile. “Wow, I really admire your courage. Would you jump with me?”

I hesitated. I’d been up so high I felt dizzy, and a sharp, heavy pain throbbed in my lower belly.

“I’ll pay you ten times the price.”

I thought of my husband, Vincent Larson, who’d collapsed from exhaustion working overtime, so I gritted my teeth and jumped with her.

When we landed, uncomfortable cramping and spotting left me feeling terrified and weak.

I instinstively reached for my phone to call Vincent.

But then I saw the girl throw herself into a man’s arms.

“Vincent, I’m saying yes to being your girlfriend!”

…

“Slow down, sweetheart. I’m right here. I’m not going anywhere.”

“Wasn’t I brave, Vincent?”

“So brave. I got a gift for you, my bravest little princess.”

To be honest, seeing Vincent like this, my first reaction was disbelief.

A line of luxury supercars stretched out, overflowing with roses.

I remembered what the girl, Kaylee McGrath, had told me up in the plane.

These were her favorite rare hybrid tea roses.

She said the heir had arranged a private jet route just to ship them in, so she could have fresh blooms whenever she wanted.

I’d eaten nothing but spoiled, half-rotten produce from dumpsters for over two months. I’d long forgotten what fresh meant.

The price of just one of those roses was equivalent to an entire month of my regular salary, plus all five of my side gigs combined.

The tenfold payment she had promised me wouldn’t even be enough to buy a single petal of that flower.

But it would have let Vincent rest easy for ten days, no overtime required.

That was the only thing that kept me from blacking out as I plummeted through the sky, terrified.

And now, those rarest of roses appeared in overwhelming abundance, cramming every single one of those luxury cars.

It was as if m0ney here was nothing more than the most insignificant number in the world.

“This is for you, to mark our first day together. Do you like it, sweetie?”

Before I got together with Vincent, it wasn’t like I had never seen this kind of dizzying, decadent extravagance before.

For my first twenty years, I was born into privilege. I had everything I could ever want.

When I got with him, I defied my parents, gave up my inheritance, turned down a strategic marriage, and cut ties with my family.

I left Klatdale and moved to Yreuford. I hid my old life from this “penniless guy” so he wouldn’t feel guilty.

That marriage beneath my station has put me through he//ll for the past seven years.

But I never complained.

In that freezing basement during winter, when it was so cold the pipes would drip ice, Vincent would hold me tight and cry, calling me foolish for secretly eating ghost peppers just to try to warm him up.

At our most loving, he raised his hand and swore, “Audrey Kingsley, I may not have much to give you, but I will love you forever, and I will never let you down.”

And now, all this luxury came from Vincent, the man I’d shared a basement with for seven years.

My legal husband.

The man I’d stretched every penny for.

People called him Mr. Larson.

In all of Yreuford, there was only one distinguished family with the Larson name.

True old m0ney, upper crust.

The image of him swearing to me blurred into the man now, smiling as Kaylee made him promise to love her forever.

One had been a tearful vow I no longer knew how much to trust. The other was full of real, warm affection.

My instinct was to turn around and leave.

I looked far too terrible right now. My face was pale, my hair messy. bl0od stained my lower half.

The pride buried deep in my bones would never allow me to confront Vincent in such a miserable state.

But Kaylee, wrapped in his arms, suddenly seemed to remember me.

With practiced ease, she reached into the inner pocket of Vincent’s jacket and pulled out a Black Centurion Card.

“Oh, right! I almost forgot. A really nice lady helped me so much, and she jumped with me. I need to pay her.”

Vincent smiled softly, his voice gentle and indulgent. “Sure. Then give her extra, a hundred times, a thousand times, whatever you like.”

“After all, I have her to thank for encouraging you to take this step. It took me four years of trying, and now I’ve finally won your heart.”

She placed the black card in front of me with an arrogant, almost haughty flourish.

When I looked up, he froze.
