I Jumped With Her She Landed in My Husband’s Arms Chapter 02

I could barely think as Vincent’s men shoved me toward an empty car.

I kept repeating the same thought over and over.

We’d been together seven years, and he’d been chasing her for four.

Now that I thought about it carefully, that promise I had once clung to as my spiritual pillar—how long had it been since he last said it?

In the daily grind, filled with nothing but exhausting side jobs, it had somehow never come up again.

I stumbled dazedly toward the passenger seat, only to be yanked back sharply.

“Find somewhere else to sit.”

That was when I saw the sticker on the passenger side: [Kaylee’s Exclusive Seat.]

The interior was meticulously decorated, filled with all the little things she’d mentioned on the plane.

When I turned around, Vincent stood there, having sent Kaylee off shopping with some excuse.

His phone screen lit up nonstop with bank alerts.

Not a single transaction alert was for less than a million.

He stared at the bl0od between my legs with a complicated look.

After a moment, he sighed. “Why did you still come out to do a side gig if you’re on your period?”

“Audrey, I remember you’re deathly afraid of heights.”

The concern in his voice sounded real.

But so did the disgust, like he feared my messy state would ruin her special car.

I couldn’t tell what was genuine anymore.

I didn’t want to know.

And I was too afraid to find out.

“That little girl’s a stickler for cleanliness. She’s still into this car for now. If it gets dirty, I’ll have to take it in for a wash—she hates the smell of disinfectant. If she catches a whiff of it, she’ll throw a fit at me.” Vincent rambled on to himself as he pulled me into the back seat.

I suddenly remembered a night not long ago when he’d come home reeking of strong perfume.

It was the exact scent Kaylee wore.

The same one I’d always hated.

When I’d covered my nose and gagged, he’d frowned and smirked. “We’ve lived in that basement for years. Since when did you get so picky?”

Now, looking back, it wasn’t that he didn’t care.

It was just that I wasn’t the one he cared about.

I snapped back to the present and watched him talk about his little princess, his face glowing with happiness.

I let out a quiet breath.

In one sudden move, I slapped him as hard as I could. “Aren’t you going to explain yourself, Mr. Larson?”

They said every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

But my hand wasn’t the part that hurt the most.

It was my heart, like something was tearing it apart, making me dizzy with pain.

His head snapped to the side. He looked shocked, then let out a careless laugh. “There’s nothing to explain. It’s exactly what you see.”

“You might as well know. She doesn’t care about any of this. Just be yourself from now on, don’t go causing a scene in front of her and upsetting her.”

His indifference made my chest ache.

“Why?”

Vincent rested his chin in his hand and brushed a strand of my dry, brittle hair away from my face. “Audrey, when you stand next to her, do people ever mistake you for her mother?”

Yes. Several people had.

He saw the answer in my silence. “She’s actually only four years younger than you.”

“Do you really need me to say it out loud? It’s not going to make you feel any better. So why bother?”

“I’m thirty years old, Audrey. I can’t spend my whole life playing the game of ‘devoted poor couple, deeply in love through hardship’ with you in that basement.”

“At first, it was interesting. A young, beautiful wife who refused to leave through all the struggles, weathering every storm by my side.”

“But it’s been too long. You’re not young anymore. You’re not beautiful anymore, Audrey.”

“I’ve never denied how moved I was by you back then. But I can’t live my whole life off just a few moments.”

He spoke calmly, then pulled out a tissue and wiped away the tears I didn’t know I’d shed.

He still wore that careless smile. “Isn’t it better this way? You don’t have to suffer anymore, Audrey.”

“Now go home. Be sweet and don’t make a scene. I don’t want her getting upset.”

“I’m actually glad right now. Because of you, she finally said yes.”

“If you cause a scene… there will be consequences you won’t like.”
