Don’t Be Scared, Hubby. This Is What You Wished For Chapter 06

Lena loved him.

She loved him enough to give up her own life.

After watching him leave with another woman, how could she possibly have fallen asleep?

Adrian’s head buzzed.

The footage of all that thick smoke flashed through his mind again. Still clinging to denial, he asked,

“She’s weak. Did she light something and pass out from the smoke? Did you take her to the hospital?”

“I’m sorry, Adrian.”

Ryan finally broke down, his w

“I’m going back. I’ll ask her to her face!”

“Adrian!”

Claire rushed over to stop him.

Hearing him mutter to himself, she snapped bitterly,

“You’re falling for it! Lena’s pretending to be dead just to trick you into going back!”

“Get out of my way!”

He shoved Claire aside so hard that she fell to the ground.

He seemed to forget how close they had been until then.

When I woke up, I was alone in the room.

Ethan had made it there before the villa collapsed.

Everyone else had been running out.

He was the only one who charged inside with a wet towel over his face.

Luckily, Ryan had panicked so badly that he left the key to the chains on the coffee table.

Otherwise, I really would have died in that fire.

“Ethan?”

I went downstairs looking for him.

Then the familiar decor caught my eye.

Back when Ethan and I were planning to get married, I had already started designing our future home.

I loved the color of fresh grass, so I wanted the entire house done in shades of green and natural wood.

The curtains would be soft white lace and satin, with a seashell wind chime hanging in the corner.

The wool rug would be woven with a garden scene, with a few plush toys lying across it as if they were

playing in the grass.

I had drawn a huge balcony.

A swing in the yard.

A greenhouse filled with white roses.

An outdoor kitchen and soaking tub.

I had even drawn Ethan making my favorite creamy pasta.

I walked into the yard.

When I looked up, there he was.

Wearing an apron, making creamy pasta for me.

“Hungry? Just give me one more…”

Before he could finish, I threw myself into his arms.

My voice choked with emotion.

“Hubby, I’m home.”

Ethan didn’t ask why I had suddenly fallen in love with Adrian.

He didn’t blame me for shutting him out for seven years.

Instead, just like seven years ago, he stroked my hair.

Gently.

Carefully.

Like I was something fragile and precious.

Then he handed me his phone.

“Adrian had the entire villa combed through. He’s convinced you’re not dead, so he posted a missing-person

notice online.”

“He treated you terribly, and you still loved him enough to risk your life for him.”

“Now that you’re yourself again, you…”

I saw the pain in his eyes, and how hard it was for him to let me go.

My heart ached with his.

“I. NEVER. LOVED. Adrian.”

“He used the One Wish Willow to make me fall in love with him and forget you.”

“Hubby, I don’t remember anything from the seven years I was married to him.”

“I’m the same Lena I was seven years ago.”

“You’re the one I’ve always loved.”

“Don’t you want me anymore?”

I nuzzled into his chest, clinging to him the way I used to.

Ethan froze for several seconds.

His voice trembled.

“Of course I want you.”

Then he suddenly looked up.

I followed his gaze.

Adrian stood there.

His face was deathly pale, his eyes bloodshot.

He stared at me like a vampire starved of blood for ten years.

Clearly, he had heard every word.

“Come here.”

When I didn’t move, he rushed to the door and rattled it violently.

“Lena, I told you to come here!”

“What are you doing in another man’s house?”

“Come here! I’m taking you home!”

“Do you hear me?”

“Lena!”
