Canceled Honeymoon Chapter 16

Canceled Honeymoon Chapter 16

Poppy arrived fast. The next day I heard Damian had been released.

But she couldn’t make him leave.

Damian went back to being a shadow, just like in college.

He stayed at a fixed distance no matter where I went.

Only this time, Poppy was his tail.

When Poppy saw she couldn’t drag him away, she tried using their parents and family as leverage.

“Damian, your mom called again yesterday asking when we’re coming back.”

“She’s not feeling well. She’s having nightmares and can’t relax without you there.”

“And there are problems with your dad’s board. Shareholders are getting restless.”

“They’re all saying you were arrested abroad. It’s causing chaos. If you don’t go back soon, there’ll be a revolt.”

Damian seemed to waver.

But then he looked thoughtful.

“Then they can move to the UK.”

Poppy was stunned. “What?”

“They can invest in projects here. It’ll make visas easier. They can settle down.”

Poppy was horrified. “Have you lost your mind? For Claire… you’d move your whole family?”

“Your parents will be furious!”

When pressure didn’t work, Poppy changed tactics.

She ordered couple outfits matching Damian’s and acted cute.

She faked colds, injuries, and hangovers.

She leaned on Damian to stand and tried to cling to him like a koala.

Whenever she made these overly intimate moves, she’d shoot me a warning glance.

The silent message was familiar: “See? He’s mine.”

I just found it funny.

She thought I was playing hard to get. She had no idea I’d already thrown him away.

Besides, Damian had started to pull back.

He didn’t cater to Poppy like before. He’d frown when she got too close.

He’d untangle her arm and keep two steps away.

Sometimes he’d zone out and take a drink she handed him out of habit, then glance at me and toss it in the trash.

“You can’t finish it, so you give it to me?”

“I’m not your garbage can.”

After Damian dodged her third fake faint, Poppy snapped.

She pulled out her trump card—an anxiety attack.

She started slapping her own face and screaming.

“Damian, I can’t take this anymore!”

“I’m so stupid! I flew all the way here for you, and you don’t even see me!”

“If you hate me so much, I’ll just go end it!”

“Once I’m gone, you’ll both be happy! Claire, you’ll be happy!”

Then she set her jaw and ran toward the Thames, grabbing the railing.
