Why Can’t I Escape This Man Chapter 09

After the big boss left, the tension in the office eased. Chloe was friendly and showed me the ropes.

Back at my desk, I was staring at code I couldn’t understand when a wave of heat rolled over me-cigarette

smoke and stale sweat from yesterday’s shirt. It clung like a damp rag.

I forced down the nausea and caught a glimpse of a meaty hand resting on my desk, dirt wedged under the

nails.

Mr. Waldron was back.

He leaned in close, his round head practically next to mine. “Little Xu, you’re doing this all wrong…”

His greasy hand reached for mine.

Without thinking, I grabbed my mouse and shoved it into his palm, rolling my chair back in one smooth

move.

“Mr. Waldron, aren’t you off yet? Since you think I’m wrong, why don’t you show me how it’s done? I’ll watch

and learn.”

He stared at the mouse in his hand, then at me. The oily smile crept back.

“How can you see anything from that far? Come closer. I’ll teach you hand to hand.”

I shook my head, hands folded primly on my knees. “My eyesight is perfectly fine, Supervisor. I can see

clearly.”

His slit eyes narrowed further. A dry chuckle escaped.

“You know, your work ethic isn’t great. Sloppy and clueless-like a dummy. Honestly, no idea what HR was

thinking hiring you. Don’t say I didn’t warn you-after probation, you’re out.”

He straightened, his bulky frame knocking hard against my chair. It jerked sideways, nearly spilling me to the

floor.

I glanced around. One colleague looked up quickly, then dropped their head again.

The smoke and sweat lingered long after he left.

I unclenched my fingers from the mouse. My palm was clammy.
