While She Buried Her Grandfather, He Was Walking Down The Aisle Chapter 05

A sharp smell of bleach hit my nose.

When I opened my eyes, I realized I was in a hospital.

Beside me sat someone familiar and strange to me at the same time.

Lucas Hayes. My childhood friend.

When he saw I was awake, the worry in his eyes faded. He pulled me into a tight hug.

“Where have you been all these years?”

I couldn’t tell him. While he was abroad as an exchange student, I’d fallen for Liam and run off with him.

I changed all my contact info. Said goodbye to everyone from my old life.

My world became just Liam.

“Your dad is doing much better. Do you want to see him?”.

Lucas must have seen that I didn’t want to talk about the past. He changed the subject.

“Lucas, thank you.”

I meant it.

If not for him, Liam might have left me in some corner somewhere. I couldn’t even guarantee

my dad would be okay.

Lucas looked at me being so polite and distant. He fell quiet.

It bothered him. We grew up together. We used to tell each other everything.

Even after all this time, we shouldn’t feel like strangers.

He wasn’t the type to share his feelings. He just told me to rest and left.

I thought I’d never see Liam again. I pulled out my SIM card and flushed it down the toilet.

In the hospital, I started trying to heal my broken heart.

Liam hurt me, but life couldn’t just stop.

Making him pay was a fantasy right now.

The best I could do was stay away from him.

Lucas was swamped with work. After I left, he’d moved abroad with his family.

He’d only been back in the country a short time and had a lot to handle.

I enjoyed the peace. Then I ran into Liam again.

Or rather, he came looking for me.

Ever since the day I’d been taken away from him, something had been stuck in his chest.

“Ava Hart. You’re a real charm.”

“I had no idea Lucas was still obsessed with you after all these years.”

My first reaction was, this is so pathetic. He was still trying to smear us.

But before I could defend myself, I found myself staring at his hand gripping my sleeve.

I always knew he’d find me eventually.

He had too much power. I could hide for a while, but not forever.

His fake act just made me sick.

“Liam, we’re done. You’re married. I have my own life. Who are you putting on this act for?”
