Twenty-Four Hours Later, My Betraying Alpha Crumbles Chapter 05

Thin shafts of sunlight slipped through the curtain slits and fell square across my closed lids.

I frowned and surfaced from the haze.

My phone screen glowed by my pillow. A scheduled alert had popped up.

[Hello, Savannah. Today you will forget everything. You will forget one person. But that’s okay+let/ them go. From now on, just love yourself.]

I stared at the words for a long time. My mind was completely blank.

My name is Savannah Miller.

Who did I forget?

I tried to search my head for the erased name, but all I felt was a faint dizziness. Nothing else.

My mind resembled a fully factory-reset drive, blank enough to feel strangely reassuring.

I climbed slowly out of bed. A dull ache throbbed in my right knee.

My phone buzzed.

The caller ID said Professor Grant, my academic advisor.

I answered.

“Savannah, are you up?” Professor Grant’s voice was gentle, careful.

“I’m up, Professor,” I said.

“About your major transfer to South Campus-most of the paperwork has been approved.” He paused, choosing his words. “Your knee damage means competitive track athletics isn’t a viable path for you any longer. Transferring to Media Communications at South Campus will give you a change of scenery and ease the strain on your healing leg.”

“Come by the administration building this morning and sign the last few forms.”

I took in the information.

Knee injury? Transfer?

I looked down at my right leg.

A long scar ran across it. Bumpy to the touch.

“Okay, Professor Grant. I’ll head over after I wash up.”

I hung up and got ready.

Walking out of the dorm, the morning air felt fresh and clean. I limped toward the administration building.

When I reached the flower bed outside, a tall, lean boy blocked my path.

He wore a white button-up shirt fastened all the way to the top button, had pale skin, and wore

rimless glasses.

He was good-looking, but his eyes carried a cold, condescending distance.

A heavy wave of Alpha pheromones rolled off him, the distinct musk of a high-ranking Alpha.

He held a neatly wrapped breakfast bag in his hand.

“Savannah.” His voice was cold. “Why didn’t you text me back last night?”

I stopped and looked at him, confused.

“Pardon me, I believe you’ve mistaken me for someone else.”

His eyebrows snapped together. Displeasure spread across his handsome face.

“How long d’you plan to keep putting on this fake show for me?” He stepped forward, his voice dripping with condescending annoyance. “Are you still upset about the diary? I’ll figure out what happened. Pulling this whole pretend-amnesia stunt now-what exactly are you hoping to gain

from it?”

“I even bent over backward to grab breakfast for you, and this is how you repay me? What else could you possibly demand?”

I stared at him. This guy made no sense.

He was good-looking, sure. But entitled haughtiness baked into his bones made me uncomfortable.

Honestly, I thought something might be wrong with him.

“Excuse me.” I stepped back half a step. “I have no clue what diary you’re rambling on about, and I’ve never met you before.”

“Could you step aside? I’ve got an appointment I can’t be late for.”

Gavin stood frozen.
