Twenty-Four Hours Later, My Betraying Alpha Crumbles Chapter 04

A pale, exhausted face appeared on the screen.

My face.

My head wrapped in gauze, wearing a hospital gown, my eyes puffy and swollen shut from endless crying.

The me in the video was curled up in the corner of the hospital bed, crying my heart out, rambling in broken, incoherent sentences.

“Savannah, listen to me. You have to remember him…”

“The healer said the blood clot in my brain is pressing on my memory nerves. I can only remember twenty-four hours.”

“I can’t lose all memories of Gavin… I just can’t! You’ve loved him for years—you threw everything, even your life, on the line for him!”

“I’m terrified I’ll wake up tomorrow with zero clue who he even is. I need to write every single detail down… read it every dawn… fall for him all over again, each and every day.”

The video was only three minutes long.

That girl’s entire world revolved around clinging to her love for this Alpha.

She didn’t sleep for seven days. She wrote that entire thick diary. On the first page, she wrote instructions.

“Savannah, the second you wake up each morning, flip this journal open. Don’t ever forget how deeply you love Gavin Reed.”

I looked at myself on the screen, and a sharp, painful ache shot through my heart.

Not for Gavin.

For the girl I used to be. The one who was so passionate, so brave, so willing to risk everything.

I reached out and touched the crying face on the screen with my fingertip.

“Silly girl,” I whispered. “The man you poured your whole heart into never cared for you one bit”

I closed the video and opened the memo titled “Memo for Savannah.”

It was filled with Gavin’s likes, his habits, every small detail about him.

At the very bottom, there was a paragraph.

[Savannah, your love is giving everything without holding back.]

[At an age where everyone plays it safe and weighs every outcome, you chose to lay your entire heart on the line.]

[Even if you get your heart completely trampled to pieces, even if your love loses to Gavin’s indifference, you have no reason to feel ashamed. It was your own brand of quiet, unyielding heroism.]

I read each line slowly, my eyes dry.

Looking back now, I’d merely been a fool gambling on one-sided affection, feeding only my own delusions.

I laid everything I had at his feet.

I gambled that he could see past the Omega label and see me. I gambled that his heart held no cruelty for me.

But his cruelty had pierced straight through my heart long before I ever realized it.

I was the only one clinging to fractured memories, lingering in a hollow, loveless devotion.

I let out a long breath.

Then I calmly tapped “Edit” in the top right corner of the memo.

Select all. Delete.

All those words, recording how small and desperate I had been, disappeared in an instant.

I went back to my messages, stared at Gavin’s all-black profile picture, and tapped “Clear Chat History.”

Tens of thousands of texts vanished in one tap, leaving the chat blank—as if we’d never even crossed paths.

Finally, I opened a new memo.

[Hello, Savannah.]

[Today you will forget everything. You will forget one person.]

[But it’s fine. Let it all fade away.]

[From now on, just love yourself.]

I thought about writing one more line: [Don’t put your faith in anyone who claims they know anything about you.] But I deleted it.

Even a warning would keep a piece of him anchored in my mind. I refused to leave him even the tiniest foothold in my life.

I set this memo to pop up as a scheduled alert every morning.

Then I locked my phone and tucked it under my pillow.

I took off my sweatshirt, lay down, and pulled up the blanket.

A dull, lingering throbbing pain pulsed through my right knee.

But I knew once the sun crested the horizon tomorrow morning, every last trace of Gavin Reed would vanish from my mind forever.

I closed my eyes.
