The Son I Left Behind Called Me Mommy Chapter 06By Novel7s / May 29, 2026 The Son I Left Behind Called Me Mommy Chapter 06“Mommy? Mommy?” Coop’s voice snapped me back to reality. I tucked the photos back where they belonged. “What is it?” “I was saying, you should sleep with Daddy tomorrow night. Okay?” The sudden suggestion derailed my train of thought completely. “What?!” Coop stared at me with huge eyes, clearly confused by my reaction. “You have to sleep with Daddy tomorrow.” “You slept with me tonight, so tomorrow it’s his turn. It’s only fair, or he’ll be all alone and lonely.” I rubbed my temples. “Let’s just get to sleep. Your father… we’ll figure that out tomorrow.” “Want a bedtime story?” Coop abandoned his father’s cause instantly. “Yes!” He curled up in the crook of my arm. His long lashes fluttered as sleep began to pull at him. Right before he drifted off, he struggled to get one last thing out. “Mommy, I’m sorry.” “Sorry for what?” I whispered. “For saying you were a bad mommy earlier. You’re not. You’re my good mommy.” With that, his eyes closed, and he was out. A lump formed in my throat. I leaned down and kissed his forehead, pulling him closer. “You don’t need to apologize,” I thought. “It’s my fault for coming back so late.” Meanwhile, in the master bedroom just down the hall, Callan lay staring at the ceiling. He was alone, just as he had been for years. But for the first time, his mind was at peace. When I woke the next morning, Coop was already up, propping his chin on his hands and watching me. His face lit up the second I opened my eyes. “Mommy, get up! Daddy’s making breakfast downstairs!” I was genuinely surprised. “Your dad actually cooks for you?” Coop shook his finger at me like a tiny professor. “Not just for me, Mommy. For us.” In the kitchen, Callan was wearing an apron, busy at the stove. The moment I walked in, he lifted a spoon of Chicken Noodle Soup to my lips. The gesture was so natural I didn’t even think to pull away. “Taste it. Is it done?” I took a sip before realizing how domestic, how intimate, this was. Callan nudged the spoon against my teeth. “Let go,” he murmured. I cleared my throat, my face heating up. “It’s done,” I blurted out, before bolting back to the living room to find Coop. At the table, Coop was acting like a proud food critic. “Mommy, isn’t Daddy’s cooking the best? He’s made me food every single day since I was little.” Callan held his bowl, quietly waiting for my verdict. Faced with their twin gazes, I nodded. “It’s delicious. Really.” A flash of pure joy crossed both their faces. After breakfast, I told them I had to go back to my place. I had a mountain of luggage from Veridian City to unpack, and I had to report to the local branch office soon. Coop panicked. He ran over and grabbed my leg, his dark. eyes filled with terror. “Can I come with you? I want to live with you, Mommy.” I looked around the massive estate. “But Mommy’s loft is small. And…” I looked past Coop toward Callan. “What about your dad? He’d be all alone.” Callan arched an eyebrow, seemingly surprised I was even considering his feelings. “It’s okay if it’s small!” Coop insisted, gesturing a tiny space in the air. “I only need this much room! As for Daddy…” He frowned, looking back at Callan. After what felt like an eternity, it finally clicked. He grabbed Callan’s hand and dragged him over to me, holding both our hands and jumping with excitement. “Daddy can just come with us!” Callan looked down at him. “That’s your big solution?” Coop nodded solemnly. Callan picked Coop up and tucked him into my arms. “Fine,” Callan said calmly. “Let him go with you. Otherwise, he’ll just nag me all day and I won’t get any work done.” “Are you sure?” I asked. Callan looked me dead in the eye and nodded. “You’re his mother. Of course I’m sure.” Back at my loft, the reality of moving back from Veridian City hit hard. It was a massive job. I wiped the sweat off Coop’s forehead. “You okay, baby?” He was lugging a box nearly as big as he was, his face flushed red, but he wouldn’t stop helping. “I’m fine! This is my first time working with Mommy!” I laughed at his spirit, but the guilt twinged again. wondered if I’d made a terrible mistake four years ago. “Mommy, who’s this?” Coop was holding a framed photo of me and another man. “Oh, I know! Is this the new daddy you found for me? Does he only speak foreign language?” I teased him. “What if he is? Would you still want to live with me?” Coop went quiet. Slowly, he shook his head. “No. I can’t leave Daddy. It was hard for him to raise me alone.” “If I leave and he cries, there won’t be anyone to wipe his tears.” My heart skipped. “Cries?” Coop nodded. “Yeah. Sometimes he just sits there and cries. He won’t talk to me when I ask why. He just looks at me and holds me really tight.” He looked at the photo, then back at me. “So I can’t leave him. But… I want to be with you too.” He wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his chin on my stomach. “If you get married, you’ll still come see me, right?” He sounded so desperate, so insecure. I felt like an idiot for joking about it. “No, baby. That’s just my professor from school.” Coop’s eyes widened. “Really?” “Cross my heart.” I went back to unpacking, missing the way Coop let out a tiny sigh of relief and pulled out his phone to send a text. [Don’t worry. You’re all good.]
