The Son I Left Behind Called Me Mommy Chapter 05By Novel7s / May 29, 2026 The Son I Left Behind Called Me Mommy Chapter 05Callan Vance and I were just two college kids in love. I knew his family was well–off, but I never connected him to the Vances. When we were dating, he’d talk to his mother on the phone and mention me. I’d see him look over at me and smile. “Yeah,” he’d say. “I’m with the person I like.” I’d get flustered and nudge him with my elbow. His mother never said anything to me, and Callan never mentioned her having an issue with us. I figured she at least tolerated the idea of me. Then graduation came. Callan moved out of his family home to live with me. He started his own business, working late every single night. I had my own job, and even though we shared an apartment, we barely saw each other. Then, one day, Mrs. Vance came to see me. I thought something had happened to him. But her first words were a demand for me to break up with him. “What?” I thought I’d misheard. She didn’t do the whole ‘villainous mother‘ thing. She didn’t offer me a check to leave. Instead, she handed me an invitation. It was at that gala that I realized exactly which Vance family Callan belonged to. The way the servers looked at my cheap clothes for just a second too long made me want to crawl into a hole. For the first time, I saw the world he belonged to. And Callan was right in the middle of it. He looked perfectly at ease, like he was born for that life. From that day on, I became hypersensitive. I’d initiate kisses, forcing him to tell me he loved me over and over. It wasn’t enough. I needed promises. “You have to love only me. Forever. Only me.” Callan thought I was just being sweet. He’d pinch my cheeks. and laugh. “What’s gotten into you? Of course I’ll only love you, Maya. Forever.” I knew I was being toxic. I knew I was suffocating the relationship. But I couldn’t stop the insecurity from eating me alive. Eventually, it all boiled over. I told him we were done. Callan refused. But the tears wouldn’t stop. “Callan, we need time apart. It’s better for both of us.” He was silent for a long time. Then, with a haunted look, he agreed. I didn’t find out about Coop until I was five months along. I’d always been thin, so a five–month bump just looked like a bit of weight gain. No one guessed I was pregnant. I spent that time trying to pull myself together and getting ready to head overseas to Veridian City for grad school. By the time I realized I was pregnant, it was too late. I never thought about telling Callan. It felt like as long as I didn’t call him, I didn’t have to face those feelings again. But then I had the baby. When I finally went to see Mrs. Vance, the poised, elegant. woman actually lost her cool. She knocked her coffee over, the liquid splashing across the table. She looked at me with an expression I couldn’t name. “You had the baby? By yourself?” “Why? You’re only twenty–three.” Then she asked, “Does Callan know?” I shook my head. She sat there, mouth agape, speechless. I expected her to call me stupid or selfish. I would have accepted it. Instead, she shoved a card into my hand, and my first instinct was to push it back. “Take it!” she snapped. She picked up baby Cooper carefully and left me with one sentence. “I’ll make sure Callan gives you an explanation.” But I didn’t wait. Coop was better off with him than with me. The next day, I flew to Veridian City. I didn’t come back for four years.
