The Son I Left Behind Called Me Mommy Chapter 01

The Son I Left Behind Called Me Mommy Chapter 01

When I left Callan Vance, I secrectly left a part of myself behind—a son.

The rumors said the boy was perfect. Polite, well-mannered, a little gentleman.

Then came my second day back in Oakhaven.

Someone from the Vance family arrived out of the blue, they said the young master was sick and needed me for the night.

Driven by a guilt, I went.

But when it was time to leave, that little boy ran out onto the porch with barefoot.

“Aren’t you my mommy?” he screamed after me, crying. “Why don’t you want me?”

“Bad mommy! I hate you!”

So much for the rumors.

Someone from the Vance family suddenly arrived, they said that Cooper Vance was sick and needed me forthe night.

I stared at him, stunned.

I had just landed in Oakhaven yesterday. My temporary loft was still a maze of unpacked moving boxes.

How did they find me?

And why on earth would the family let me anywhere near that child?

The butler saw my hesitation.

“Mrs. Vance is expecting you.”

He meant Callan’s mother.

I looked at my messy living room, thought about it for a heartbeat, and climbed into the car.

The entire drive was a blur.

Four years ago, right after giving birth, I handed the baby to Callan’s mother.

I hadn’t looked back once. I never expected our first meeting to happen like this.

The car pulled into the Crestwood Estate.

Mrs. Vance looked dazed when she saw me.

“Cooper is upstairs. Go to him.”

I bowed my head slightly and nodded.

As I reached the bedroom door, my heart hammered against my ribs.

I pushed the door open slowly.

The room was bathed in a dim, amber glow. A small figure lay tucked under the covers.

His eyes were squeezed shut, his brow furrowed in pain.

He looked exactly how I remembered.

Every year on his birthday, someone would anonymously send me a picture.

I sat on the edge of the bed and reached out, ghosting my fingers over his cheek.

My hand must have been cold. His feverish face instinctively pressed into my palm, seeking relief.

I held my breath.

Cooper’s eyes fluttered open. He froze when he saw me.

“Who are you?” he asked, his voice raspy.

My throat tightened. Not knowing what the family had told him, I didn’t dare tell the truth.

“I’m… a friend of your father’s.”

The light in his eyes flickered out. He pulled the duvet up, hiding half his face.

“Oh,” he murmured.

Then he asked, “Where’s my daddy?”

“I don’t know.” I replied honestly.

Realizing I had nothing else to offer, he turned away and buried himself under the blankets.

I stared at the small lump on the bed. I hesitated, then reached out and poked it with my index finger.

No response.

I got up to head downstairs. The moment the door clicked shut, I thought I heard someone move behind me.
