The Comments Said He Never Wanted Me—So Why Did Divorce Make Him Snap? Chapter 08

When I got home, Luca was unexpectedly there-he’d skipped school.

I should have given him a piece of my mind.

But then I thought, what right did I have?

The kid didn’t even acknowledge me as his mom.

Someone else would make sure he studied hard in the future anyway.

“Are you really sure you want a divorce?”

“Yeah.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Tell you what?” I asked, genuinely curious.

“That… I could’ve followed you!”

I froze. “Who said I was taking you?”

Luca went stiff. “Mom… you’re not taking me with you when you leave Dad?”

“You’ve got a new mom coming. Why would I take you? Wouldn’t that just be getting in your way?”

With that, I went back to packing my things.

He stood at the doorway.

When I looked back, tears were streaming all over his face.

“Luca?”

The kid was just like his father-tough as nails.

Why was he suddenly bursting into tears?

“If you’re not taking me, then what’s the point of you and Dad getting divorced anyway…”

I frowned. “What are you talking about?”

“I don’t care! I want to go with you! I don’t want Dad!”

I thought I misheard him.

I crouched down and pulled gently at his hand.

Surprisingly, he didn’t pull away.

I pinched the shirt he was wearing-the one Brielle Ward bought him.

He didn’t flinch either.

“But you won’t even wear the sweaters I knit for you. Look-this one, you’ve got it on right next to

your skin.”

“You don’t like me wearing this shirt, Mom?”

He scrambled to undo his buttons, frantically trying to yank the small shirt off.

I caught his hands, frowning. “Luca, what’s going on?”

He pouted.

Then he completely broke down, sobbing hysterically.

“I was wrong! I shouldn’t have pretended to hate you, Mom! I just couldn’t stand how Dad treated you! I wanted you two to get a divorce so you’d be mine and mine alone!”

I frowned deeply.

The comments exploded with confusion.

Luca sobbed, barely catching his breath.

“Mom, you’re so good, and Dad doesn’t deserve you! If you divorce him, it’ll just be you and me! I’ll protect you and treat you right!”

“I don’t want Dad making you sad anymore!”

I was stunned. “You wanted… your dad and me to get a divorce?”

Luca hiccuped through his tears.

“I… I kept telling you that Dad told me to stay away from you, that Dad told me to like other women, and that Dad said you were full of schemes… It was all… all because I wanted you to leave him!”

[Wait, hold on! Is the kid making up bad stuff about his own dad to make him look like a total

scumbag?]

[Luca! Whose side are you even on?]

I stared in utter disbelief. “So… your dad never actually said those things? He never told you to stay away from me?”

Luca puffed.

“Dad doesn’t like you, and he obviously doesn’t like me either! He can’t even be bothered to talk to me, so I can’t be bothered with him either!”

At the doorway, Edmond was standing there, having heard everything.

He stared at his son in disbelief.

“Honey, I never disliked…”

“Enough, Edmond,” I cut him off. “Both of you, out.”

“Mom…”

“Out.”

Edmond’s eyes were red as he reached for Luca’s hand.

Luca violently yanked his arm back. “Don’t touch me!”

Edmond froze. “Luca, I’m your dad.”

“You don’t deserve to be! You don’t like Mom at all! You always make her sad and upset! I’m L Mom’s, not yours!”

“Mom said she’s getting a divorce! Just go!”

Edmond opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out.

His eyes glistened red.

Luca ran back to his room and hauled out a large storage tub.

He popped it open-inside, the gloves, sweaters, and scarves I had knitted for him over the years were stacked with absolute perfection.

Every single item was vacuum-sealed in a clear bag.

Each had a small sticky note attached:

[Winter sweater from Mom for Luca. Nov 29, 2021)

[Ultraman gloves from Mom for Luca. Dec 8, 2022]

[Fluffy scarf from Mom for Luca. Dec 12, 2023]

“Mom, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to wear the clothes you made… I was just too scared to ruin

them…”

[Wait… Luca, what are you saying?]

[Are you seriously backstabbing Brielle right now?]

[Luca: I hate that I’m too young, so this was my only way to break up my parents!]

[Why is Luca giving off total mommy’s boy vibes?]

[No way! Luca belongs to our baby girl! Don’t even go there!]

In the end, I sent both father and son out of the room.

Luca kept turning back to glance at me with every step.

After the door closed, Edmond’s voice came through, muffled.

“You think I treat your mother badly?”

I didn’t listen to the rest of what they said.

Staring at the tub full of knitted items, I sat stunned for a long time.

Everything inside was preserved flawlessly.

There were even fragrance sheets tucked between them.

It was the exact scent of the perfume I usually wore.

For a single moment, tears stung my eyes.

I never knew my son was secretly hoarding everything I gave him.

Yet, the image of him and Brielle wearing matching family outfits at the shop flashed right back

to my mind.

I wiped the corner of my eyes.

Forget it.

It was better not to risk letting myself slide toward the terrible fate the comments predicted.

The door opened.

Edmond stood there, his voice trembling slightly.

“Honey…”
