The Comments Said He Never Wanted Me—So Why Did Divorce Make Him Snap? Chapter 07

I handed the divorce papers to Edmond’s parents.

Once they showed them to Edmond and got his approval, he was supposed to come to me and sign.

Yet I waited and waited, but Edmond never showed up.

Two weeks passed.

Even back when he couldn’t stand coming home to see me, he would drop by at least once a week.

This time, it had been far too long.

The comments started rolling again:

[Look at her moping! Edmond can’t even be bothered to deal with her!]

[Lmao, with our baby girl at the office and a psycho at home, who would want to go home?]

[He’s doing the right thing. The villainess is playing so many games-offering a divorce, taking all the fault-god knows what trick she’s pulling!]

[Steering clear of her now keeps him from falling into her trap.]

So he thought I was scheming again.

I got up.

I printed out another set of divorce papers, had a lawyer review them, and signed my name.

Then I marched straight to the office.

It was eleven at night.

Edmond was the only one left working in the CEO office.

I pushed the door open.

Looking up alongside Edmond was the young woman I had seen at the mall.

Clutching a stack of files to her chest, she was leaning down, speaking to Edmond.

When she saw me, her expression changed instantly.

She said to Edmond, “Well, Mr. Harrington, I’ll step out then.”

“Okay.”

Edmond’s face went cold.

The woman closed the door behind her.

Clearly, she was the polite, proper, innocent type-exactly Edmond’s kind.

Not like me, spoiled and pushy.

Edmond leaned back in his chair. “What are you doing here?”

“Why haven’t you been coming home?”

“What would be the point?”

I paused.

The comments laughed hysterically:

[She’s actually asking why he won’t come home-when she’s the one there!]

[He carries way too much.]

“Of course there’s a point. How else are we going to sign the divorce papers?”

He snapped his head up. “Divorce-is that the only thing on your mind?”

I froze. “What else is there?”

“You’re the one who forced me to marry you back then! What, now you’re going to force a divorce

on me?”

“Edmond… you’re the one who doesn’t want to be with me.”

He faltered, then let out a bitter laugh. “What if I told you I don’t want a divorce?”

“Why?”

“I love you.”

[What? Edmond, listen to yourself! What are you even saying?]

[Our baby girl is going to be heartbroken if she hears this!]

[Don’t panic, everyone! He’s definitely lying just to appease the bitch! Once the time is right, he’ll

ss her straight into the asylum!]

I looked at Edmond.

He had never been this humble in his life.

Even when I forced him and cuffed him to the bed, he had maintained his unyielding defiance.

I used to love tough nuts to crack.

Not anymore.

“Edmond, I don’t believe you.”

He froze.

I slid the divorce papers toward him.

“I don’t have time to play mind games with you and your secretary. Our beginning was messy, but at least let’s give each other a clean, dignified exit.”

I turned around.

Behind me, a hand slammed hard onto the desk.

He stood up.

“Weren’t you the one who always loved forcing people into things they didn’t want?”

“So why aren’t you forcing me now?”

I turned back.

“Because I don’t love you anymore.”

The rims of his eyes flushed red.
