The Comments Said He Never Wanted Me—So Why Did Divorce Make Him Snap? Chapter 09

The Comments Said He Never Wanted Me—So Why Did Divorce Make Him Snap? Chapter 09

I leaned back against the headboard to read my book, giving him no response.

He stayed silent too.

He quietly moved the nightstand lamp closer to me, then retreated back into silence.

After reading a dozen pages, I realized something was off.

He was far too quiet.

I looked over, and my jaw dropped.

Edmond had actually cuffed himself to the bed frame!

In the past, I had to force and command him to do it.

Why was he being so cooperative now?

“What on earth are you doing?” I stared at him, utterly dumbfounded.

He lowered his gaze. “I was wrong. From now on, treat me however you want.”

I set my book down and walked over to his side of the bed.

His shirt was unbuttoned, exposing the faint scars on his chest left by his father’s belt from when I had complained.

My hand reached toward the mark.

The moment my fingertips brushed against it, his chest muscle twitched.

He bit his lip hard, swallowing the soft gasp that almost escaped.

He had always been hyper-sensitive.

I pulled his shirt together and buttoned it up. “Put your clothes on.”

[Villainess, how are you holding back? He literally tied himself up for you and you buttoned him up?]

[I know she’s the villainess, but girl, if you don’t want him, at least let us swoon over him!]

[Ew! He’s our baby girl’s man-she has no right to touch him anyway!]

[Easy there. I’ve followed this from the start. The villainess hasn’t actually done anything wrong And in terms of plot, calling our baby girl the other woman isn’t even inaccurate. What’s everyone so worked up about?]

[I was thinking the same thing. I bet the author was a homewrecker themselves, trying so hard to glorify the female lead.]

[Exactly! Raina’s man, Raina’s kid–everyone kept screaming that they don’t belong to her. Like, hello? Nobody has more right to them than Raina herself!]

Edmond looked up at me. “You’re not going to take me anymore?”

“Save it for the one you really want.”

Just as I turned around, his free hand-the one that wasn’t cuffed-reached out and snatched me straight into his arms.

“I love you, Raina. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you!”

By the end of it, his voice was choked with tears.

Before I could even process what was happening, I was pulled into a deep, desperate kiss.

With glistening, tear-filled eyes, he stared down at me.

“I was blind in the beginning. I regretted it a long time ago. Marrying you was the greatest blessing of my life.”

“Especially after we had Luca-I’ve been so happy every single day. I didn’t mind serving you, didn’t mind you having your way with me.”

“I was just… terrified…”

I froze. “Terrified of what?”

“That if I let you see I was completely yours, a heartbreaker like you would lose interest in me for good.”

I was speechless.

His Adam’s apple bobbed.

“I know you, Raina. You’re not interested in men who give in too easily. The only reason you were so obsessed with me back then was because I wasn’t easy to win over. Right?”

Honestly, that wasn’t true at all.

“Raina, I admit I can’t live without you anymore. Can you please not treat me like all those other guys? Please… don’t abandon me?”

“Edmond.” I paused, carefully organizing my thoughts before speaking seriously, “I didn’t marry you just to play around with you, nor was it a spur-of-the-moment thing.”

“Sure, I had my fun back in the day. But when it comes to marriage, I have always been dead

serious.”

He froze completely.

“Edmond, I married you because I genuinely loved you.”

A heavy silence filled the room.

Then, I saw an uncontrollable, overwhelming joy flood his eyes.

“Then… we don’t have to get divorced, do we?”

?

I flipped over and cuffed his other wrist to the bed frame. “Well… let’s see what you’ve got.”

Edmond outdid himself.

By the late hours of the night, he had even slipped right out of the handcuffs himself.

Overall, I gave him a perfect score.

But… after a night of indulgence, a name suddenly hit me-Brielle.

Damn it! How could I have forgotten about her?

Edmond had taken her and Luca out to buy clothes before, wearing matching family outfits!

Furious, I stormed straight to the company.

Sure enough, she was in his office, leaning over the desk as she and Edmond reviewed a document together.

“Honey?” Edmond’s eyes lit up. “You came… to see me?”

I shot a cold glare at Brielle.

She offered a bright smile. “Hi, Mrs. Harrington!”

Mrs. Harrington?

She sure knew how to put on an act.

She caught my frown and gave Edmond an awkward nudge.

“Edmond, why isn’t my cousin-in-law saying anything?”

[WHAT?]

[Cousin? You guys! That’s incest!]

[She’s adopted, right? It has to be an adopted cousin! I’ve been shipping you two this whole time, and now you hit me with ‘cousin’?]

I was just as stunned. “Cousin?”

Right at that moment, Edmond’s mother called me.

“Raina, dear! It’s a total misunderstanding! A complete misunderstanding! I finally figured out why you wanted a divorce! Brielle is actually Edmond’s cousin!”

I nearly dropped my phone.

What kind of twisted comments were those?

The comments themselves were completely losing it:

[Damn it, author, you played us!]

[Are we just a pawn in Raina and Edmond’s love story?]

[Easy, girls. I wasn’t worried at all. I knew Edmond was down bad for Raina from the very beginning. Y’all were hating the whole way while I was quietly shipping them.)

[Hey, same here!]

Edmond stared at me in a daze, the joy in his eyes growing brighter and deeper by the second.

“Honey… were you jealous?”

“No!”

“I saw it.”

Once Edmond dropped his cold facade, he turned out to be remarkably clingy.

Not that I minded it.

The only issue was that he guarded against Kayden like he was a thief.

He was convinced that without him, I would have ended up with Kayden.

Little did he know, Kayden and I didn’t have any romantic spark at all.

Kayden saw right through the dynamic between Edmond and me, and from start to finish, he was just helping me rile up the father-son duo.

He was firmly anti-marriage-completely different from me.

Edmond began having heart-to-heart talks with Luca every single day.

The big-shot boss was practically on his knees for his son to believe he truly loved his mother.

Only then did Luca finally allow his dad to take him out to play.

The comments had completely disappeared.

My life settled back into peace.

People often said Edmond had changed-that a man who used to be so icy, distant, and chaste had turned into a total henpecked husband.

He said plainly, “I haven’t changed. I just stopped hiding it.”
