The Comments Said He Never Wanted Me—So Why Did Divorce Make Him Snap? Chapter 06

I looked up in disbelief.

Could words like that-asking if I didn’t want him anymore-actually come out of Edmond’s

mouth?

The comments were flooded with questions:

[Edmond, don’t get lost in your own act. Those pathetic words are beneath you.]

[All because of her! He’s forced to grovel with lines like that, just to keep her from tattling to his

parents!]

[I bet she walked into that store on purpose just to intimidate our leads.]

[Obviously! Every other time they’ve brought little Luca there, she never tagged along. But this time? She shows up with another man. Who exactly is she trying to threaten?]

I lowered my gaze.

“If you’re worried that getting a divorce and marrying that girl will lead to bad rumors about her, we can do it quietly.”

“I can even play along with you in public. We can act until everyone believes our marriage naturally fell apart, and that she’s your soulmate.”

[Classic pick-me speech! She’s so good at playing the victim.]

[Oh please, ‘secret divorce,’ ‘acting in public-she just can’t bear to let him go!]

[She honestly deserves her terrible ending. I only hate that she doesn’t suffer more.]

“Why?” Edmond’s voice sounded raspy.

“What?” I blinked.

“I said, why?”

The corners of his eyes turned slightly red.

Leaning in close to me, he whispered, “You were the one who insisted on marrying me. Now you suddenly decide you want a divorce.”

“Raina, how far do you have to push me before you’re satisfied? Am I just a toy to you?”

I had never seen Edmond like this.

Alight mist glistened in his eyes, and his rims were flushed red.

Even back when I complained to his parents and they lashed him, he had only grit his teeth and

frowned.

Seeing him like this, I didn’t know what to say.

So I just stared back at him in silence, completely speechless.

“Raina.” Edmond broke the silence first. “You’re heartless.”

Huh?

I sat frozen on the bed.

Even after he got up and walked out, I still couldn’t wrap my head around it.

[This is unbelievable. Look what she’s put him through!]

[Eight years! That’s eight whole years of his youth wasted on this villainess!]

[The eight years he owes our baby girl are all because of her endless clinging! Now she wants an easy way out? What about the eight years our leads missed out on? Can this bitch just die already!]

I closed my eyes, forcing myself to ignore the comments.

Luca knew I was back.

Following my old rules, he brought breakfast up to my room.

Just as he was about to set it down, I reached out and stopped him.

“From now on, forget all those rules I set for you.”

He went stiff.

I got up and walked out without looking back.

I went straight to Edmond’s parents’ place, bringing Kayden along with me.

I laid the divorce papers on the table in front of them.

Holding Kayden’s hand, I said clearly, “That’s how it is. I cheated. I failed Edmond. As the party ay fault, I’m walking away with nothing.”

dmond’s parents stared at Kayden and me in complete shock.

Edmond’s mother blinked in disbelief. “Raina, dear… have you run into some trouble?”

“Yeah, Raina, if something’s wrong, just tell us. We’ll help you,” Edmond’s father added. “Or did that bastard Edmond pick a fight with you again?”

I smiled faintly and pulled Kayden’s arm closer. “No. This is my own choice.”

Edmond’s parents stared at me for a long moment before letting out a collective sigh.

“Alright. If you’ve made up your mind, we’ll respect that.”

“But leaving with nothing is ridiculous. We’ll handle it properly-the Harringtons won’t treat you

unfairly.”

“No, I don’t want a single cent.” I paused, then continued, “It’s just that Edmond misunderstood

my intentions and thinks I’m trying to blackmail him. I hope you can reason with him so we can part ways amicably. That would be the best outcome for me.”

They exchanged a look and gave a gentle nod.

As I opened the door to leave, I realized the study door across the hallway was slightly open.

Edmond was standing right at the doorway.

He had heard every word.

Our eyes met.

I forced a smile first.

“Congratulations, Mr. Harrington. You’re finally free of me.”
