The CEO Postponed Our Wedding Nine Times For Her Chapter 04

The CEO Postponed Our Wedding Nine Times For Her Chapter 04

At the hospital entrance.

Chase scooped me out of the car and headed straight for the VIP wing.

Even the doctor seemed exasperated:

“Mr. Chase, the patient only has a minor forehead laceration; there’s no serious damage.”

Chase kept a stern face.

“No, what if she has a concussion?”

“I’m not taking chances. She needs to stay under observation for at least a week.”

Sloane whipped out a credit card:

“Money is no object. Get her the best medical team available!”

The doctor, likely never having seen two people so eager to throw money away, muttered before leaving the room:

“What a perfectly matched couple.”

Both of them froze instantly.

Chase touched my forehead and forced a small smile:

“That doctor is really playing matchmaker with the wrong people. I’ll go set him straight in a bit.”

Sloane immediately stood up in annoyance:

“Why wait? I’ll go set him straight right now.”

“Being lumped together with you is just bad luck!”

Chase raised an eyebrow and bickered with her for a moment before dropping it.

I looked away, my heart filled with bitterness.

Somehow, without noticing, I had become a mere spectator in their story.

In the days that followed, Chase did his best to play the devoted boyfriend.

My mother, Mrs. Sterling, even called to lecture me, urging me not to dwell on what happened at the wedding.

“You’re not getting any younger. If you lose Chase, you’ll likely never find anyone better.”

“Besides, so what if something is going on between him and Sloane?”

“If Sloane wants to take him, do you really think you can stop her?”

I bit my lip, my eyes stinging.

After enduring this for so many years, I suddenly couldn’t take it for another second.

Moving my finger, I blocked her number directly, planning to unblock her only after I was discharged.

Without my mother’s constant harassment, my days became much quieter.

Occasionally, a chatty nurse would gossip with me enviously:

“You’re so lucky, Maya. You have a boyfriend whose eyes are only on you, and a best friend who’d do anything for you.”

“If I were sick, I’d probably just have a cold, indifferent caregiver by my side.”

I smiled and opened the meal Chase had prepared for me today.

With just one look, my smile froze on my face.

After a moment, I spoke expressionlessly:

“Take this and throw it away for me.”

The nurse paused, frowning as she tried to advise me:

“Did you two have a fight? Don’t take it out on the food.”

Chase happened to walk in at that moment.

“What’s wrong? Is the food not to your taste?”

“Is it too sweet or too salty? I’ll go fix it right away.”

I curled my lip and tilted the food container.

“It’s more than just ‘not to my taste’.”

“Out of five dishes, I’m allergic to three, and the other one is roasted asparagus—which I’ve hated my entire life.”

The expression on Chase’s face stiffened.

“I’m sorry, I…”

I glanced at Sloane, who was standing behind him, and smiled:

“But forget it.”

“Even though I don’t eat these, it just so happens that they are all Sloane’s favorites.”

“Since she’s here, there’s no need to throw it in the trash.”
