The Bullet Comments Called Me Stupid And Doomed Chapter 12

The Bullet Comments Called Me Stupid And Doomed Chapter 12

Marcus showed up a short while later with another officer — a woman named Vera Collins.

The comments were right. Trent hadn’t chosen me by accident.

Someone had contacted Trent anonymously, Marcus explained. Paid him to lure me overseas. That was why Trent had been working so hard to get close to me.

“…Someone has it out for you. Which means the scooter that hit you might not have been an accident either.”

“Think hard. Is there anyone who’d want to hurt you? Anyone with a reason to want you gone?”

I hesitated. “I haven’t made any enemies… but something strange did happen.”

I told them about the photo — the one that showed Julian with another woman — and how it vanished from my phone overnight.

Marcus listened, nodded slowly, then stepped out to talk to Julian.

He came back a little while later. “We’ve got a lead. We’ll follow up as quickly as we can. In the meantime — be careful.”

He glanced toward the door and dropped his voice. “Look, I know you two are divorced. But that young man outside — he still cares about you. A lot.”

“Until we sort this out, stay close to him. He’s your safest option right now.”

This wasn’t the time to be stubborn. I nodded. “Okay.”

Julian didn’t come back in until the officers were gone. His face was set. “Someone’s trying to hurt you?”

“Maybe. They’re not sure yet.”

He went quiet. I could see him turning something over in his head.

“I’m sorry. This is my fault.”

He was thinking about Sloane Sterling. I could tell. And I didn’t tell him it wasn’t his fault — because if it really was Sloane, then it was.

[Could it actually be the female lead?]

[Looking more and more like it.]

[I can deal with her stealing the ML, but hiring someone to have the ex-wife killed? That’s psychotic. The ex-wife never even did anything to her.]

[Maybe they had beef in a past life?]

[The ex-wife never appeared in the FL’s past-life memories. If there was history, it would’ve come up by now.]

[Honestly, the ex-wife’s only crime is being dramatic with the male lead. The FL is way out of line.]

[Out of line? She’s the real villain here. The FL is the vicious one here.]

Julian couldn’t stay at the hospital around the clock — he still had work — so he hired a caregiver for the days. But every evening, the second he got off work, he was there. He spent every night beside my bed and left again each morning.

I was in the hospital for several days. When I was discharged, Julian moved back in.

That night, he wrapped his arms around me from behind and pressed his face into my neck. “Stella. Marry me again.”

I was still mad. But then I thought about his future net worth, and suddenly forgiveness felt very doable.

But I needed to hear one thing first. “Have you ever actually loved me?”

He pulled back to look at me like I’d lost my mind. “Why would I marry you if I didn’t love you?”

“But the comm—” I caught myself just in time.

“But what?”

I backtracked, my voice small. “I thought you didn’t love me. That marrying me was just… honoring a promise to my mom.”

He actually laughed. “Marry someone to settle a debt? What kind of psychopath do you think I am?”

I buried my face in his chest, already crying. “I thought you didn’t love me.”

“You idiot. I don’t just like you — I’m in love with you. I always have been.”

I grabbed onto him and sobbed — ugly, loud, messy sobs — letting out everything I’d been holding back. He held me through all of it, murmuring against my hair, until I cried myself to sleep.

The doctor ordered rest. Between the pregnancy and someone actively trying to get me killed, I quit my job and stayed home. Julian didn’t like the idea of me being alone all day and wanted to hire help. I pushed back — the man was still drowning in debt.

He waved it off — said he’d landed a big deal this month, and the commission would more than cover it. So we got live-in help. And security cameras — inside and outside.

The scooter guy stuck to his story at first — mechanical failure, total accident. Then the police found a six-figure sum in unexplained cash at his place.

He broke. Confessed everything. Someone had paid him to hit me, he said. But he didn’t know who was behind it.

Weeks later, the police traced it all back to one person: Sloane. Julian’s college classmate. The female lead. She got twelve years — for human trafficking and attempted murder.

Months later, our daughter was born.

Julian worked twice as hard once he had a little money pit to feed. He cleared his debt in record time. Started Sterling Corporation a couple of years after that. Took it public a few years down the line.

The richer he got, the less anything changed between us.

Sometimes I caught myself wondering if I’d accidentally stolen the female lead’s storyline. Turns out, I wasn’t the only one thinking it.

[Wait — the male lead ended up with the ex-wife?? Is SHE actually the real female lead?]

[No need to guess — the author rewrote the synopsis overnight. Stella IS the female lead now lmao]

[A dramatic spoiled wife is perfectly fine as long as her heart’s in the right place. Wishing them a lifetime of happiness!]

Well, if the universe was handing me a promotion, who was I to say no? Haha.
