Damon hung up and sped to the funeral home at full throttle.

He was dazed the whole way, clinging to one single thought. He prayed this was all just a prank I’d

pulled to punish him.

He jumped out of the car and stormed into the funeral home lobby, shouting, “Kaley, where are

you? How much longer are you going to keep this act going?”

A staff member approached and held out a cremation form, speaking flatly, “Mr. Garner, this is the

cremation form your wife filed. Please settle the payment first.”

Damon’s gaze locked onto the paper.

His legs went weak the second he saw the baby’s name.

It was the name we’d picked out together back in happier days.

Panic surged inside him, nearly swallowing him whole, yet he still put on a tough front. “How dare

she? Forging a cremation form? Doesn’t she know that’s illegal?”

He reached to snatch the form, but the staff held him back firmly. “Mr. Garner, please calm down. The family member’s cremation procedures are completely legal and compliant. You simply need

to settle the payment.”

“Let go of me! You’re all in on this with her, trying to fool me? I’ll shut this place down!”

Damon’s eyes were red. He struggled like a wild animal against the staff.

Just then, two familiar voices came from the entrance.

“Damon! What are you doing here? What is going on?”

Damon spun around and froze when he saw his parents standing in the doorway.

He frowned, confused. “Dad, Mom, why are you here? Weren’t you two traveling abroad?”

Damon’s mother, Victoria Garner, stepped forward quickly and pushed him aside, her face dark with anger. “We rushed back as soon as we heard Kaley was giving birth. We went to the hospital

to see our grandchild!”

“Kaley called and told us she’d arranged a car for us-said it would bring us directly there.”

“But somehow the car brought us here. So, what exactly is going on here?”

Damon’s father, Arthur Garner, stood aside, his face grim, staring silently at Damon.

Damon’s heart sank. His hands clenched at his sides.

He couldn’t meet his parents’ eyes. He stammered but still told them everything.

His head hung lower with every word, his voice fading to a murmur.

Victoria’s face grew darker with anger and disappointment.

Before Damon finished speaking, she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.

The sharp sound cut through the quiet funeral home.

Damon’s head turned to the side, but he didn’t dare say a word.

“I always told you to treat Kaley well! You never listened to me!”

Victoria pointed at him, her voice shaking with rage

“You fooled around with other women, and now you’ve actually let some mistress walk all over Kaley! She was carrying your child, suffering in that delivery room, and you defended that wretched

woman instead!”

“If anything happened to our grandchild, I would never forgive that Gwen!”

Arthur stepped forward and said firmly, “What’s the use of saying all this now? First, we need to

find Kaley and the child!”

Damon held his stinging cheek. He finally realized how terribly he’d messed up. “I’ll use every

connection I have. I will find Kaley. I will find her!”

He made call after call, sending out order after order. The entire Garner family network was

mobilized.

But no matter how hard they searched, I was gone without a trace.

Just as he was falling apart, a soft, sweet voice came from the door, “Damon, don’t worry. I know

where Kaley is.”

Gwen showed him a photo. “Look, Damon. Kaley ran away with the baby. She’s doing this to get

back at us.”

Damon stared at the photo and let out a furious roar. “Kaley, how dare you! How dare you take my baby and run!”

“Just wait! Wherever you go, I will find you and bring you back!”
