Six Years As His Luna. He Only Wanted My Sister Chapter 09

Cyrus brought the letters to the elders and arbiters.

Lila was already locked in the dungeon.

But she hadn’t given up hope yet.

When she saw Cyrus walk in, she stood at once.

“Cyrus.”

“I know you’re angry.”

“But I never wanted Maeve dead.”

“Once the case is over, we can-”

Cyrus threw the printed letters onto the table.

One look. All the color drained from her face.

“That’s not my writing.”

“The evidence is complete, Lila.”

She grabbed the edge of the table.

“Lucian forced me.”

“He was the favored heir of the North then.”

“He wanted me. If I refused, the Sinclairs would be targeted.”

The lawyer behind Cyrus turned to another page.

Another letter.

“Willing to court you formally.”

“Cyrus is a fool who only knows how to charge into the Black Forest border.”

“This mission is a death sentence.”

“Even if he survives, he’s just an Alpha.”

“How could he compare to you.”

Every line.

Another shade of white on Lila’s face.

She finally sat back down.

A long time later, she broke.

“Yes.”

“I chose Lucian.”

“But what were you then?”

“You were going somewhere so dangerous.”

“Everyone thought you’d fail.”

“Why would I gamble my life on you?”

“Later, you came back safe. The mission succeeded. Your standing rose.”

“That’s when I knew I’d chosen wrong.”

Cyrus stared at her.

“So you pushed Maeve to me. Made her take your gamble.”

Lila’s voice shot up.

“That seat was supposed to be mine!”

Cyrus looked at her.

“You pushed it away yourself.”

“She lived the six years you didn’t want.”

“And you came back blaming her for not keeping the seat exactly as you left it.”

Lila’s eyes went red.

“She knew you loved me. And she still played Luna for six years.”

“If I didn’t make her take a new mate fast, sooner or later you’d have been unable to let her go.”

Cyrus’s eyes changed.

“You knew. All along. That I couldn’t let her go.”

Lila shook her head, crying.

“I was scared.”

“Cyrus, I did care about you.”

“We grew up together.”

“She’s dead now.”

“What does finding out the truth change?”

“She’s not coming back.”

Cyrus slowly placed the letter that said “causes no trouble” in front of her.

“So you think, now that she’s dead, I can still be with you?”

“While she was alive, I failed her once.”

“Now that she’s dead, am I supposed to fail her again by choosing you?”

Lila reached across the table for his hand.

Cyrus stepped back.

“She never caused trouble.”

“You locked her up. Bound her. Gagged her.”

“She died without ever getting one fair word for herself.”

“But the ones who let you do it? That was me.”

His voice dropped.

“Because you all knew.”

“As long as it was about you, I’d make her endure one more time.”

“But now, Lila, you just make me sick.”

That same day.

Every murderer and accomplice in the Sinclair family was locked in the dungeon.

Kane was set to return to the Black Forest patrol line the next day.

Before leaving.

He went to my farewell hall.

In front of my portrait, he tore up the personal file Cyrus had once prepared for him.

“Maeve.”

“The bond you didn’t want-I’ve canceled it.”

“You are an independent female.”

Cyrus stood outside the door the whole time. Never went in.

While I was alive, I asked him three times.

He dragged it to the seventh day. Still wouldn’t say the words to cancel it.

In the end, Kane said it for me.

As Kane passed him, he paused.

“Cyrus.”

“You took her funeral into your own hands in the end.”

“That doesn’t mean she forgives you.”

“She stopped asking anyone for anything at the end.”

“She slammed into that door because she wanted to live.”

Cyrus closed his eyes. Said nothing.

He knew his fault. And he was punished.

After losing me, Cyrus never slept a full night again.

He had lost his destined mate. Forever.

The first night, he barely held on.

From the second night, his wolf began to suffer.

It took his sleep. Then his calm.

Then, every full moon, it forced him to feel exactly how I died.

The full moon he once looked forward to became a night of nightmares.

In the dark, he let out one suppressed howl after another.

His claws left bloody streaks on the iron door.

By dawn, he was curled in the corner, drenched in sweat, chest torn open.

He started dreaming of me.

In the dream, I was still at the estate.

In a white dress, standing at the end of the long hall, watching him quietly.

Every time, he ran toward me.

Halfway there, I was swallowed by a sudden snowstorm.

No struggle.

No looking back.

No calling his name.

He woke with blood in his throat.

That night, he went alone to the old bedroom where I used to stay.

The bed was empty.

Only a shallow dent on the windowsill.

Where I’d set the moonstone every night for six years.

Cyrus crouched. Pressed his palm over the dent.

Slid down the wall to the floor.

Every night, he could feel part of himself rotting with me.

What he lost wasn’t just a Luna.

It was the only female who ever truly loved him.
