Silenced Omega Chapter 23

Silenced Omega Chapter 23

On the second day, he found an elderly woman who lived near the lake.

She still remembered what had happened.

“That day, I heard someone yelling for help. I ran outside and saw a girl dragging a boy out of the water.”

“She looked like she was about to go under herself, but she never let go of him.”

“After they got him to shore, her lips were blue from the cold, and she just kept asking, ‘Is he okay?’”

Preston asked, “Do you remember the girl?”

“I do. Ponytail, wearing a Lincoln High uniform,” the old woman said. “She also had a little moonstone pendant around her neck. It kept swinging back and forth in the water.”

Both Laney and Genevieve had gone to Lincoln High.

But Genevieve had always claimed her health was too poor to attend regularly.

On the third day, Preston stood in the office of the director of a top private hospital.

A thick medical file lay on the desk.

“Mr. Doyle, these are all of Miss Genevieve’s medical records, from age eight to the present,” the director said cautiously.

Preston opened the file and pulled out the first record.

Age eight: hospitalized for two weeks with acute pneumonia.

Doctor’s note: Symptoms were mild. Family insisted on extending the hospital stay.

Age ten: shock caused by a food allergy.

But the allergen test showed the patient had no allergic reaction to the food in question.

Age twelve: pseudo-heat.

Patient’s secondary sexual characteristics were developing normally, with no obvious signs of heat. Observation recommended; no treatment necessary.

Age fifteen: diagnosis of pheromone deficiency.

The psychological evaluation stated clearly that all of the patient’s indicators were normal, with no apparent pheromone abnormality. The family requested that the diagnosis remain on her record.

Preston turned page after page, his hands beginning to shake.

Age seventeen: vegetative state following a car accident.
