My Sister Wanted The God, I Got The Beast In Bed Chapter 07

Valerie came to me looking for healing elixirs. One look at me – glowing skin, bright eyes, curled against Julian’s chest – and she shattered.

“How is this fair?!” Valerie screamed, her whole body shaking. “Why do you get all of this while I’m rotting alive?”

She lunged at me, nails aimed at my face.

Julian’s eyes went cold. With one flick of his wrist, a conjured white serpent tail lashed out, sending Valerie flying. “Get out.”

I’d never seen him lose his temper like that.

Valerie hit the ground and coughed up a spray of viscous, dark blood. Something writhed inside it

tiny parasites, still wriggling.

My skin crawled. A curse?

Gideon had planted a curse inside her.

“Valerie, you -” But she was already dragging herself up, wiping blood from her mouth with the back of her hand. The smile she gave me was grotesque.

“One month,” Valerie hissed. “One more month, and Gideon ascends. When I’m Divine Queen, I’ll rip you both apart.”

She staggered away.

I watched her go, and something cold settled in my chest.

Gideon was worse than I’d thought. He wasn’t just draining Valerie’s lunar magic – he was incubating the curse inside her body, turning her into a living sacrifice for his Ascension.

I gripped Julian’s hand. “Julian… Valerie, she’s -”

Julian sighed and stroked my hair. “She chose this path, Flora. Nobody can walk it for her, and nobody can save her from what’s waiting at the end.”

The day of Gideon’s Ascension arrived.

Dark clouds choked the sky above Obsidian Crest, boiling with lightning. Thunder rolled through the valley like something enormous turning over in its sleep.

The pressure that descended over the Serpent Clan was suffocating.

Everyone in the Clan knelt at the base of the mountain, faces turned upward, too awed to speak.

Valerie stood at the summit in a tattered red dress, her hair – brittle as dead grass – whipping in the wind. She was laughing. Wild, ragged, unhinged laughter.

“It’s happening!” Valerie shrieked. “I’m going to be a goddess! I’m going to be a goddess!”

She looked down at Julian and me, and every ounce of hatred she had left burned behind her eyes.

“Watch, Flora!” Valerie screamed. “This is what real power looks like! Your pathetic Julian isn’t fit

to lick Gideon’s boots!”

I pressed against Julian’s chest, my swollen belly between us, and said nothing.

Julian’s hand settled over my belly, steadying the babies inside. “Don’t be scared,” he murmured. “I’m right here.”

A massive black shape ripped upward from the peak and into the sky. Gideon.

– a serpent hundreds of feet long, thrashing and screaming through He had revealed his true form the center of the Ascension storm.

Bolt after bolt of divine lightning tore into him, ripping flesh from scale, but with every strike his power surged – darker, denser, more terrible.

The final bolt came down like a fist. And then the black serpent opened its jaws and roared – a sound that split the sky and shook the earth to its roots.

Horns erupted from his skull. Claws burst from beneath his belly. His black scales caught the lightning’s glow, each one gleaming like hammered iron.

He’d done it. He had actually done it. A true dragon.

Valerie was shaking – not from cold this time, but from pure, desperate joy. She threw her arms wide and screamed at the sky.

“Gideon! Take me with you!”

The black dragon circled once, then descended. That enormous head dipped low until it was level with the summit, and two golden eyes fixed on Valerie.

There was nothing warm in those vertical pupils. Only hunger. Only cold.

“Yes.” Gideon’s voice rolled across the mountain like thunder. “It is time.”

Tears streamed down Valerie’s face – tears of joy, for the first time in months. She gathered her tattered skirt and reached for the dragon’s back.

“Do you see this, Flora?!” she called down. “I’m going to the Divine Realm! And you’ll never see me again!”

She turned back one last time and gave me the triumphant smile she’d been saving.

I looked up at her. When I spoke, my voice wasn’t loud, but in the silence of the valley, it carried.

“Valerie. Do you really think he’s here to save you?”

Valerie froze. Her head snapped toward me. “What’s that supposed to mean? You’re just jealous!”

I sighed and rested a hand on my belly.

“Look at yourself. You’re barely human anymore. Your blood is drained, your organs are hollowed out, and every inch of you is crawling with cursed parasites.”

“He’s not taking you to be his queen, Valerie.”

“The path of Ascension demands a blood sacrifice. And you’re it.
