Tears streamed down Celine’s face.

She stumbled toward me, nearly tripping over herself.

“Mia, it’s not what you think.”

“I didn’t mean for this to happen.”

“I really didn’t want to hurt you.’

I looked down at her.

“Didn’t mean to?”

“You showed up at my apartment in a nightgown, used my towels. That was an accident.”

“You draped yourself in the veil my dying mother left me and rolled around with my groom in a lounge. That

was an accident too?”

I said it all, sentence by sentence.

Celine’s face went whiter with each one.

Her mouth hung open, but not a single word came out.

Garrett finally rushed back and reached for my arm.

“Mia, calm down.”

“The video’s done. Let’s go somewhere and talk.”

I shook his hand off.

“Go somewhere and talk?”

“When you were holding her in that lounge, did you think about going somewhere to talk?”

“When you pressed my mother’s veil underneath you, did you think about going somewhere to talk?”

Garrett’s entire body locked up.

His eyes went red, and his voice dropped to something raw and broken.

“I didn’t know you’d care this much…”

I actually laughed.

“You didn’t know?

“Did my mother not hand me this veil right in front of you before she died?”

“Did she not hold your hand and beg you to take care of me?”

“Did you not kneel at her bedside and swear you’d never let me be hurt?”

Garrett’s lips trembled.

He couldn’t get a single word out.

Mrs. Holloway was already crying.

She walked up onto the stage and slapped Garrett across the face.

“Do you deserve Mia?”

“Do you deserve her mother?”

“Her mother trusted you with her dying breath!”

“And this is how you take care of her daughter?”

The slap snapped Garrett’s head to the side.

But he didn’t flinch away.

He just stared at me, unblinking.

“Mia, I was wrong.”

“I was really wrong.”

“I just I was confused. I lost my head.”

Celine suddenly threw herself forward, sobbing, grabbing at Garrett’s sleeve.

“Garrett, you can’t let her blame only me.”

The moment those words hit the speakers, another wave of shock tore through the crowd.

Mr. Holloway’s face went purple with fury.

Mr. Marsh charged over and yanked Celine away from Garrett.

“Haven’t you embarrassed yourself enough?”

“You’re going to cling to this man right in front of the bride?”

Celine was crying so hard she could barely breathe.

“Dad, I really love him…”

Mrs. Marsh slapped her again.

“Love?”

“You call this love?”

“You used Mia’s money to go abroad, came back and stole her groom, and destroyed the one thing her mother left behind.”

“You have no conscience!”

The slap sent Celine staggering. She nearly fell.

Before, all it took was a single tear from Celine and Garrett would have been at her side in a heartbeat.

But this time, Garrett stood frozen.

With every guest and both sets of parents watching, he finally didn’t dare reach out.

I watched the whole scene unfold and felt a sudden stab of irony.

So they did know what shame was. They just needed an audience.

On it, Celine leaned against Garrett’s chest and asked softly, “Do you love Mia?”

Garrett was quiet for a long time.

Celine let out a small laugh.

“See? You can’t even answer.”

Garrett leaned down and kissed her.

“Stop asking.”

“I’m about to marry her.”

“The wedding’s all set.

“She’s waited seven years for me.”

“I can’t mess this up now”

Every word came through the speakers, crystal clear.

I suddenly felt like the last seven years of my life had been one long joke.

Mrs. Holloway looked at me through her tears.

She reached for my hand.
