My Power Showed Me His Cheating An Hour Earlier Chapter 07

Garrett’s face went even whiter.

He finally panicked. He walked toward me looking completely wrecked, all composure gone.

“Mia.”

“I can explain.”

“Celine and I aren’t what you think.”

“I was just… the pressure before the wedding was too much.

“I just…”

I cut him off.

“Garrett.”

“You don’t need to explain.”

His eyes went red instantly.

“No, that’s not… ”

“Mia, I did love you.”

When that sentence landed, I went still.

I looked at him.

“Did?”

“Garrett, listen to what you just said.”

“Even you know it’s past tense.”

He looked like someone had grabbed him by the throat.

He couldn’t say another word.

I turned to face the crowd.

The seats were filled with relatives, friends, people who had known my mother.

I picked up the microphone. My voice was steady.

“Today’s wedding is canceled.”

“I’m sorry you all came out here for nothing.”

“But I won’t apologize for what just happened.”

“Because I’m not the one who betrayed anyone.”

“I’m not the one who ruined my mother’s keepsake.”

“And I’m not the one who trampled seven years of love underfoot.”

The room went quiet.

Someone started clapping.

At first it was just one or two people.

Then the applause grew.

It wasn’t congratulations.

It was the only dignity they could offer me.

I slipped the engagement ring off my finger and set it on the emcee’s podium.

Then I gathered the stained veil into my arms.

This time, I wasn’t leaving it behind for anyone.

Garrett saw me heading for the door and completely fell apart.

He rushed over and grabbed my hand.

“Mia, don’t go.”

“Hit me, scream at me, anything.”

“Cancel the wedding, fine, but don’t leave me.”

I looked at his hand gripping mine.

And suddenly I remembered a long time ago.

The first time he ever held my hand, his palm was slick with nervous sweat.

He’d said, “Mia, I’ll always hold your hand.”

But now.

All I wanted was to shake it off.

I pulled niy hand free.

“Garrett.”

“Don’t touch me.”

“You disgust me.”

His hand hung in the air.

He looked like someone had hollowed him out from the inside.

Celine came running after me, crying.

“Mia, I know I was wrong.”

“Please don’t cut me out of your life.”

I stopped walking and turned to look at her.

“Celine.”

“When I was paying your tuition, you were my friend.”

“When I asked Garrett to look after you, you were my friend.”

“When my mother held your hand on her deathbed and asked you to be there when I got married, you were

my friend.”

“But the moment you draped that veil over yourself and fell into Garrett’s arms.”

“You became nothing.”

Celine’s sobs choked off mid-breath.

I didn’t look at her again.

I held the veil against my chest and walked out of the ballroom.

Behind me, Mrs. Holloway was still crying and screaming at Garrett. Mrs. Marsh was dragging Celine by the arm, demanding she get on her knees and apologize. The guests’ voices rose in waves, one louder than the

next.

On the big screen, the footage of Garrett and Celine’s humiliation was still playing on loop.

I didn’t stop. Not once.

I looked down at the veil in my arms.

A few pearls were missing. The edges were badly creased.

But I held it tighter.

“Mama.”

“I’m not getting married.”

“This time, I’m taking you with me.”
