My Mean Boyfriend Had Two Completely Different Faces—So DO I Chapter 04

Reid Sterling glared at me, his jaw tightening as he spat out his final words. “Fine. Have it your way!”

He slammed the door behind him without looking back.

The moment he was gone, I spent the entire night packing my bags.

He’d always been financially generous. Since we started dating, my vanity was crowded with luxury skincare I’d never even heard of, along with more designer bags than I can count.

But I’d always been terrified of them. I never dared to actually wear them, and I even cleaned them with trembling hands, fearing I’d leave a mark.

I didn’t plan on taking any of it with me.

I also had an Amex Black Card where I was an authorized user.

He’d tossed it at me with an annoyed huff one day after seeing me cleaning a wound on my leg—an injury from a delivery shift gone wrong.

“Take the card,” he’d snapped. “Reid Sterling’s girlfriend doesn’t need to live like a peasant.”

I cherished the sentiment, but I never spent a dime of his money recklessly.

Even during the few times I had to swipe it for my grandmother’s emergency ER medical bills and co-pays, I made sure to pay back every single cent later.

Now, that card sat quietly on the coffee table in the living room.

It was late into the night by the time I moved back into my dorm. The next morning, I was summoned to the faculty office before I was even fully awake.

“How are you running this team?” the advisor barked. “We spent months preparing for this tournament. Why were we disqualified?”

The other team members jumped to my defense.

“It’s not Ella’s fault! Lexi Watson leaked our strategy to the other side. That’s why we were kicked out!”

The advisor frowned and sent for Lexi. When she walked in, Reid was right there with her. The entire team’s eyes shifted to me instantly.

“Mr. Collins? You wanted to see me?” Lexi asked, looking like a kicked puppy.

Mr. Collins looked like he was about to explode, but before he could speak, Reid piped up with a sneer.

“Seriously, Ella? Ganging up on a girl yesterday wasn’t enough? Now you’re running to Mr. Collins to tattle?”

“Watch your tone.” Mr. Collins snapped. “My students were disqualified for no reason. I have every right to ask why.”

Reid shrugged nonchalantly. “Sure, go ahead.”

Then he leaned back.

“Look, Lexi made a mistake, fine. But you can’t just keep scapegoating the same person.”

“Ella is the president. If anyone should take the heat, it’s the leader, right?”

I started shaking with rage, but Reid didn’t even notice. He shot me a mocking look.

“Don’t you always preach about fairness and accountability? You’re the president. This falls on you. You accept that, don’t you?”

I dug my nails into my palms until it hurt. Reid was right about one thing—as the president, the responsibility ultimately rested with me.

But those words shouldn’t have come from him. Not from the man I’d loved for three years.

I signaled for my teammates to stay quiet and looked the advisor in the eye.

“It was my oversight. I failed to keep Lexi from handing our victory to the opponents on a silver platter.”

“I’ll accept whatever consequences you decide.”

Mr. Collins hesitated, then sighed.

“Fine. Lexi Watson is kicked off the team. As for you, Ella, you’re stepping down. Someone else will take over as president.”

Reid looked delighted. He crossed his arms and let out a soft chuckle.

“Now that you’ve been stripped of your title, let’s see how you enjoy looking down on people from your moral high ground.”

I closed my eyes for a second, then looked at Reid. “We’re done with team business. Now let’s talk about us.”

Reid laughed as if I’d told a joke. “We don’t have any ‘us’ business…”

Before he could finish, I swung my arm with everything I had and slapped him across the face.

The force was so great it snapped his head to the side.
