My Mean Boyfriend Had Two Completely Different Faces—So DO I Chapter 03

Thinking of that night, tears began to stream down my face. Reid walked through the door at that exact moment.

Before I could wipe my eyes, our gazes locked.

Reid kicked his shoes aside with an annoyed sigh and sneered.

“Lexi is the one you guys tormented, and she hasn’t said a word. Yet you, the one who started it, are sitting here crying? Unreal.”

“She ruined the tournament for all of us,” I choked out, my voice thick with tears. “I just told her to leave the team. Is that really too much?”

“And another thing…”

The frustration I’d suppressed all afternoon finally erupted.

“You’ve always acted like you have a zero-tolerance policy for stupidity. Why are you suddenly so protective of Lexi Watson?”

Reid froze for a second, then snapped back.

“Zero-tolerance? Ella, watch your tone. I just can’t stand a group of people ganging up on a girl until she’s in tears. What’s wrong with that?”

I tried to wipe my face, but the tears only fell faster.”

“Lexi is a stranger to you, yet you can’t stand to see her cry.

“What about me? I’m your girlfriend. Am I just supposed to watch you play hero for another woman?”

Reid let out a cold laugh.

“Here we go again. I truly admire your ability to get jealous over absolutely nothing, Ella.”

Get jealous over absolutely nothing?

I started laughing through the tears.

“You think we bullied Lexi, so you have to protect her?”

“Do you even realize that I needed that prize money to cover my tuition for next semester?”

My voice trembled. “She screwed over the entire team. I kicked her out. That’s it. How is that ‘too much’?”

Reid didn’t flinch. He just looked at me with pure disdain.

“Playing the victim again?”

Reid had seen me struggle when I couldn’t pay my bills.

He had seen me exhausted after my DoorDash shifts.

He knew I’d poured everything into this tournament specifically to cover my expenses.

But in his eyes, it was all just a performance to get sympathy.

I spent the rest of the afternoon in a daze, wondering where it all went south.

Then it hit me. My only mistake was wasting three years of my life on a man like Reid Sterling.

I stood up too fast, and after crying for so long, a wave of dizziness made the world tilt for a split second.

Reid instinctively reached out to grab my arm, but then he seemed to remember something and pulled his hand back.

I let out a hollow laugh. My voice was numb.

“Think whatever you want, Reid. We’re done. Let’s break up.”

Disbelief flashed in his eyes for a split second.

“You’re breaking up with me over something this small?”

He followed it with a sharp, icy laugh. “Fine, Ella. It’s your call. Just don’t come crawling back.”

“I won’t,” I said flatly.

I was finished wasting time on a cold-hearted man who never saw me as an equal.

“I’ll move out as soon as I can. You…”

Before I could finish, Reid’s phone buzzed.

Reid’s lips curled as he saw the caller ID. Then he answered it on speakerphone.

Lexi’s fragile voice echoed through the room.

“Reid? I fell while I was out for a run… my leg is really hurting. Could you come see me?”

Reid kept his eyes on me, his smile widening.

“Sure. Send me your location. I’m on my way.”

He hung up and looked down at me like I was dirt.

“Let me be clear: I don’t give second chances. If you apologize to Lexi, I’ll pretend today never happened. Otherwise…”

“I haven’t done anything wrong, why the hell should I apologize?”

I interrupted, staring him straight in the eyes.

“Lexi is waiting. Go to her.”
