My Mean Boyfriend Had Two Completely Different Faces—So DO I Chapter 02

My throat felt like it was stuffed with wet cotton. The sudden suffocation stripped away my ability to speak, but luckily, the other team members stepped in.

“Explain yourself, Reid. How exactly did we bully her?”

“Ella just told her not to come back and mess things up again. She’s not even being held liable. How does that make Ella an accomplice?”

Lexi Watson sniffled, her fingers clutching Reid Sterling’s sleeve.

“Reid, I know you’re only standing up for me because you care, but…”

She glanced at me as if I were some kind of predator before lowering her head.

“Maybe Ella just doesn’t like me.”

The day ended in a bitter standoff, with everyone leaving in a foul mood.

Before Reid led Lexi away by the hand, he shot me a freezing glare.

“Ella Miller, you’re being pathetic. I hope you take some time to reflect on what you’ve done wrong.”

I stood there, watching their retreating figures, my mind drifting into a void.

What exactly did I do wrong?

I still hadn’t figured it out by the time I walked back to the apartment I shared with Reid.

Looking at the pristine floors polished by the maid, it hit me again—Reid was a total germaphobe.

He practically wore “Don’t Touch Me” as a personality trait.

But it wasn’t just strangers. Even as his girlfriend, I was often kept at arm’s length.

Unless he was in the mood, he’d coldly dodge me if I tried to hold his hand.

If I had dared to grab his sleeve the way Lexi just did, he would have looked at me with pure disgust.

Then, he would’ve stripped the shirt off right in front of me and tossed it into the trash like it was contaminated.

I remembered a night when I was working a shift at a late-night diner and got cornered by a group of thugs.

I called Reid from the police station, sobbing, begging him to come get me.

When his cold face finally appeared in the lobby, my composure crumbled. I threw my arms around his waist, wailing.

“You… you finally came. Reid, I was so scared.”

Reid let me hold him for a long moment. When I finally stopped crying, he looked down at my swollen eyes.

I thought that for once, despite his sharp tongue, he might actually say something comforting.

Instead, his thin lips curled as he spat out several words.

“Ella, look at yourself. Aren’t you filthy?”
