My Husband Fell for My Would-Be Killer Chapter 03

My Husband Fell for My Would-Be Killer Chapter 03

The next day, Roman came to pick me up when I was discharged.

He took me to a small house.

It was only two stories, with barely any neighbors around. It was clearly a newly purchased place meant as a temporary home.

“Why aren’t we going to the Ardizzone estate?” I asked.

Guilt flickered across Roman’s face before he smiled.

“It was too big. When you were unconscious, living there alone just made me think about you all the time, so I moved here.”

I scoffed to myself.

He was still feeding me the same tender lies.

But I no longer cared. I grabbed him by the collar, looked him straight in the eye, and asked, “Where’s Renzo Lanza?”

Roman stiffened, his pulse suddenly racing.

After a long pause, he took my hand and gave me a gentle, reassuring smile.

“Why so fierce? You know I love that about you.”

“Renzo was worried sick when you had the accident. I was afraid it would be too much for him, so I sent him somewhere quiet in the country.”

“I know he’s like a father to you, so I gave him enough money to retire comfortably.”

“If you want to see him, I’ll take you once you’re feeling better.”

He looked at me with warm, indulgent affection.

I wanted to gag, but I kept my face perfectly calm.

“Beatrice, let me take you shopping. You need some new clothes.”

Roman changed the subject at exactly the right moment, clearly afraid I’d keep asking questions.

I nodded.

Fine by me. It was probably safer than staying alone with him and fighting the urge to kill him.

At the mall, Roman picked out clothes for me with practiced ease.

But he’d never gone shopping with me before.

Back then, he’d been too busy securing his position to waste time on something as trivial as shopping with me.

Now he knew exactly what he was doing.

Someone had clearly trained him well, and I knew exactly who it was.

While I was changing in the fitting room, Roman stepped outside to take a call. A few sales associates huddled behind the counter, whispering.

“Mr. Ardizzone isn’t here with Mrs. Ardizzone today. Who’s that woman?”

“Probably his mistress. Mr. Ardizzone always acts so devoted to his wife. I can’t believe he’d cheat on her.”

“Rich men are all the same. I just feel bad for Mrs. Ardizzone. She’s so sweet, and gorgeous too.”

I shoved over the floor lamp beside me. Its glass shade shattered across the floor in front of them, making the sales associates scream.

I gave them a sidelong glance.

“Charge it to Roman.”

By the time Roman returned, every sales associate had gone pale. I was the only one who looked perfectly calm.

Roman didn’t seem to notice anything unusual. Instead, he said nervously.

“Beatrice, I just got a call saying my car needs to be moved. I have to go down to the garage. Can you keep shopping on your own for a little while?”

“Don’t worry. I’ll be right back.”

He hurried off without even waiting for my answer.

I watched him go, then followed.

In the parking garage, a Ferrari was rocking slightly, muffled moans coming from inside.

I held my breath and moved closer.

I heard the wet, unmistakable sounds of them fucking.

Suddenly, a woman whimpered, “Honey, are you cheating on me? I was at the mall today, and they told me they saw you shopping for clothes with another woman!”

“I’m not. Don’t overthink it. I was shopping with Beatrice. She just woke up, so I was only helping her get some clothes.”

There was no mistaking Roman’s voice.

That meant the woman was probably Noemi.

Her sugary voice grated on my nerves.

“Baby, do you still love Beatrice? It’s okay if you do. As long as I can stay with you, I’d kneel at Beatrice’s feet. I’d even pay with my life!”

Her voice broke as if she were about to cry, and Roman immediately began soothing her.

“Don’t say that. I don’t love Beatrice. All I feel for her is guilt. Once she’s fully recovered, I’ll make her leave.”

“cupcake, you’re the only woman I love, and you’re the only one who can give me children!”

Noemi immediately brightened.

“Of course. Beatrice hemorrhaged during a miscarriage two years ago, and it left her unable to have children. Even if she wanted a baby now, she couldn’t have one!”

Roman laughed with her.

“Yeah. So you’ll have to give me a few.”

The slap of skin against skin grew louder.

Noemi screamed, “Oh, no—easy, honey. You’re going to fuck me raw.”

The Ferrari rocked harder.

I let out a heavy breath and turned away, a deep ache settling inside me.

So I had once been carrying a child.

But I hadn’t even known it existed before it was gone.

A message notification pulled me out of my thoughts.

It was Massimo.

[Bellacorte’s last rat has been caught.]

[He gave us some information.]

[There’s another reason Noemi Vieri was able to command the Manhattan crew besides the pendant…]

[Her last name used to be Bellacorte.]
