My Husband Fell for My Would-Be Killer Chapter 02

My Husband Fell for My Would-Be Killer Chapter 02

The next day, I happened across a news story announcing that Roman, the head of Ardizzone Dynasty, was getting married.

The photo showed the girl beaming with happiness while Roman knelt before her, slipping an enormous blood-red diamond ring onto her finger.

It suddenly took me back to the time he’d knelt in front of me too. Except all he’d put on my ring finger was a piece of lace ribbon tied into a loop.

The comparison made me look utterly pathetic.

I gave a self-mocking smile and was about to close the article when a pendant around Noemi’s neck caught my eye.

I zoomed in on the photo. The black lion crest came sharply into focus. There was no mistaking it—the pendant was a black onyx signet bearing the symbol of authority within Bellacorte Family.

Only two existed in the world. Massimo had one, and I’d loaned the other to Roman.

That pendant had helped Roman edge out the other heirs and become the head of Ardizzone Dynasty.

And now Noemi was wearing it around her neck.

My head spun as rage surged through me.

I immediately headed for the base of Bellacorte Family’s Manhattan crew in New York.

On the way, I reassured myself that a Bellacorte Capo or soldier took orders from people, not from a pendant. Even if Noemi had it, she shouldn’t have been able to wield Bellacorte’s power without my authorization.

But when I arrived, nothing was as I’d expected.

Not a single person in the Manhattan crew recognized me. Even the Capo had been replaced.

The soldier at the door shoved me hard to the ground.

“Who the hell are you? You crazy bitch. Do you have any idea where you are?”

Ignoring the pain, I grabbed his collar. “Where’s Renzo? Where’s Renzo Lanza, the Capo of the Manhattan crew?”

He sneered and shoved me down again.

“That old bastard pissed off the Principessa. He was chopped to pieces a long time ago.”

A chill tore through me, leaving me barely able to breathe.

Renzo had looked after me since I was a child. He was practically a second father to me, and someone had murdered him while I lay unconscious.

I clenched my jaw and took a cab straight to the Ardizzone estate.

My fingerprint still worked on the security system. Once inside, I carefully stayed out of sight.

As I passed through the living room, I spotted a boy around a year old sitting in a high chair while the nanny was busy in the kitchen.

My attention sharpened, and I quietly made my way over.

Before long, I was back at the hospital, dropping onto the bed in exhaustion with my palms still clammy from nervous sweat.

I hadn’t even recovered my strength when Roman stormed in and demanded, “What did you do with Elio?”

“Who’s Elio?” I blinked at him, looking confused.

A vicious look flashed across Roman’s face, as if he might strangle me on the spot.

“Beatrice, stop playing dumb. I checked the security log. Your fingerprint was used!”

“You had to be the one who took Elio.”

“I’m warning you, Elio is my—”

His phone rang before he could finish.

The instant Roman answered, the hostility vanished from his face.

I could faintly hear someone on the other end say, “Found him. Under the couch.”

Once Roman hung up, I asked, “So who exactly is Elio?”

Roman looked uncomfortable as he brushed me off. “It’s nothing. Did you go home today?”

“Yeah.” I kept my tone casual. “I missed you, so I went home to see you. You weren’t there, so I came back.”

Roman frowned and studied me for a moment before giving a quiet laugh.

“Next time you miss me, just call. Things are chaotic at the estate right now. There are too many people coming and going.”

“Elio is my nephew. He nearly went missing today, so stay away from the estate for now.”

I nodded obediently.

Roman’s suspicions faded, and he soon made an excuse to leave.

Once he was gone, I pulled a sheet of paper from my pocket.

It was the will left by the former head of Ardizzone Dynasty before his death. It had been hidden under his bed all this time.

What Roman didn’t know was that I’d been there when his grandfather made the will.

He also had no idea what the will actually said.

[Ardizzone Dynasty, in its entirety, was to pass to Gabriele Ardizzone, the younger son of Emilio Ardizzone.]

I’d hidden the will for Roman’s sake back then.

I had no intention of hiding it anymore.

My phone suddenly chimed.

It was a message from Massimo.

[Gabriele Ardizzone has been found.]
