My Husband Fell for My Would-Be Killer Chapter 01

My Husband Fell for My Would-Be Killer Chapter 01

On the eve of my wedding, a crash left me comatose.

When I woke, my husband was marrying the woman responsible.

Outside my ward, his childhood friend Miles Hart asked:

“Now she’s awake, what will you do? Still marry Noemi?”

“You’re about to marry the woman who nearly killed her.”

“Aren’t you afraid she’ll hate you?”

Roman argued:

“Noemi didn’t mean it. She’s lived with the guilt for years.”

“I hated her at first. Then her kindness moved me.”

“As for Beatrice, I already married her. I could’ve divorced her while she was unconscious. I didn’t. I’ve done enough.”

I said nothing. Just pressed the emergency distress button on my phone, silent for years.

Dare lie to a Mafia Principessa?

Then prepare for a living hell.

Their voices still carried clearly through the door.

“Even if Beatrice doesn’t hold it against you, Bellacorte Family isn’t exactly easy to deal with.”

“If they find out you’re marrying another woman behind their Principessa’s back, do you really think they’ll let you get away with it?”

Miles sounded genuinely worried.

Roman, however, brushed it off.

“Don’t worry. Bellacorte went through an internal coup two years ago. They probably still have their hands full. Otherwise, someone would’ve come to see Beatrice by now.”

Miles sighed, still uneasy. “So what are you going to do now? Divorce Beatrice?”

Roman was silent for a long moment before answering.

“Beatrice just woke up, and she’s still weak. Bellacorte isn’t in any position to look after her. If I leave her, who else is going to take care of her?”

“I’ll put her in another house, so at least she’ll still have a home.”

I trembled, rage burning so hot it made my head spin.

A sudden noise came from outside the room, and I quickly slipped back into bed.

A moment later, someone came to my bedside. When I felt a warm presence draw close to my face, I opened my eyes.

Roman froze for a beat, then his face immediately filled with what looked like genuine concern.

“Beatrice, you’re finally awake! I was so worried you’d lose consciousness again!”

My hand clenched into a fist.

If I hadn’t heard what he’d just said, I might actually have believed him.

I gave him a faint smile and asked as casually as I could, “What happened to the person who hit me?”

Roman’s hand stilled around mine, and a flicker of panic crossed his face.

“The person who hit you is already in prison. They were sentenced to life.”

He couldn’t even look me in the eye as he said it.

I felt nothing but contempt as I asked, “Wouldn’t they need me to identify the driver? I saw their face that day.”

Roman shot me a startled look, his hand tightening around the bedsheet.

He was nervous.

But he recovered quickly and said gently.

“Beatrice, You were unconscious for two years. Your memory may not be reliable.”

“There’s no rush. Focus on getting better first. We can deal with it once you’ve fully recovered.”

“I’ll go talk to the doctor about how you’re doing.”

With that, Roman got up and left, his steps noticeably hurried.

I gritted my teeth and retrieved the old phone from inside the nightstand.

It was reserved for emergency communications within Bellacorte.

I dialed a number in Sicily.

It took a long time before someone answered. Then my brother Massimo’s familiar voice came through. Tears pricked my eyes.

But his next words made my stomach knot.

“Beatrice, Finally. How’s my nephew?”

“What nephew?”

The other end of the line went quiet for a moment before he slowly said.

“Roman told us you gave birth a year ago.”

“He even sent me photos. But Bellacorte was dealing with a coup in Sicily at the time, and Papa and I couldn’t get away to see you.”

The words hit me like a punch.

So Roman had slept with that woman not long after I fell unconscious?

“Beatrice?” Massimo’s voice hardened. “So Roman betrayed you and lied to us too?”

“I’m coming back to New York right now!”

I drew a deep breath and stopped him.

“Don’t. But I need you to do me a favor.”
