My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 13

Ethan’s expression changed at once.

“What? That pendant belonged to my grandmother. My mother wore it every single day. She never took it off. How could it possibly be at the Lakeshore Restaurant?”

The man on the phone answered at once.

“It’s true. The pendant was inside the dog cage behind the restaurant. I took a picture. I’m sending

it to you now.”

The call ended. Ethan opened the message, and the moment he saw the photo, his hands began to

shake.

“It’s my mother’s pendant.”

He looked up, his eyes red as he stared at Vanessa.

“Why? Why was my mother’s pendant in your restaurant? Why was it inside a dog cage?”

Vanessa was terrified by the look on his face.

She backed away, shaking her head frantically.

“I don’t know. I’ve never met Margaret. I’ve never seen that pendant before.”

Then she pointed at me.

“It was Olivia. It had to be her! She knew the restaurant belonged to me now, so she planted the pendant there to frame me!”

I wasn’t surprised. I simply looked at her.

“Vanessa, even now, you’re still trying to blame everything on me?”

“That pendant belonged to the woman whose teeth you ordered your staff to pull out. The blood beside the dog cage. The pliers on the floor. Do you really not remember any

of it?”

Ethan lunged toward me.

He grabbed my shoulders, his voice shaking so badly I could barely understand him.

“Olivia, tell me exactly what happened!”

I looked at him and laughed.

“What do you think happened?”

“Vanessa mistook your mother for mine. She locked her in a dog cage and, in the end, let her die

there.”

Ethan’s face turned deathly pale.

Emily froze too.

“You’re saying…”

“The woman at the restaurant whose teeth were pulled out, who was locked up, and who eventually

had a heart attack…”

“That was my mother?”

Before I could answer, Vanessa screamed.

“Impossible! Don’t listen to her nonsense!”

“That woman looked like a penniless homeless old lady! The moment she walked into the

restaurant, she started looking around everywhere and stuffing food from the tables into her

mouth!”

“She kept repeating Olivia’s name. Anyone would’ve assumed she was one of Olivia’s relatives!”

“How could she possibly have been Margaret?”

After saying that, Vanessa waited for Ethan and Emily to defend her the way they always had before.

But this time, their expressions only darkened.

Vanessa finally panicked.

“Ethan, Emily, why aren’t you saying anything?”

“That woman was an actress Olivia hired and sent there! Don’t let her fool you!”

I looked at her and gave her the brutal truth.

“You still don’t know, do you?”

“Margaret was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease three years ago.

“She forgets people. She forgets places. She forgets things she did only moments ago.

“But whenever she forgets everything else, the one name she repeats over and over is always mine. Because for the past three years, I’ve been the one taking care of her.”
