My Husband Backed His Assistant-Until He Learned She Had Killed His Mother Chapter 12

I looked quietly at Ethan, the man I had loved for so many years. Back then, he had nothing, but he

was determined and serious.

He would hold the textbooks I’d bought for him and talk to me about the home we would build

together someday.

He had no money, yet he always tried to give me the best of whatever little he had.

That Ethan had been the person I trusted most in the world.

That was why I had supported him, stayed beside him through the hardest years, and even let my mother put her retirement savings into his business.

But now, he didn’t love me anymore.

So why should I stay here and keep wasting my

life?

Ethan clearly froze when I agreed so quickly.

Emily reacted at once.

“You said it yourself. Don’t change your mind in a few minutes.”

She quickly ordered one of Walker Group’s lawyers at the party to bring over a divorce agreement.

“Didn’t you say you wanted a divorce right now? Sign it.”

“The lawyer can file it with the court afterward.”

She looked completely certain, clearly convinced I was bluffing.

I took the pen and signed my name without hesitation.

Ethan stared at my signature on the agreement, his expression unchanged.

A few seconds later, he picked up the pen and signed his name on the other side.

Emily snatched the papers away and couldn’t stop smiling.

“This is perfect. The lawyers can handle the rest!”

“Ethan, you’re finally free of her.”

Then she linked arms with Vanessa.

“Vanessa, you and Ethan can finally be together openly now.”

“From now on, you’re the only sister-in-law I’ll accept!”

Vanessa deliberately lowered her head, pretending to be shy.

“Emily, stop. Ethan and I aren’t at that point yet. Besides, I haven’t even officially met Margaret What if she doesn’t like me?”

Emily answered without hesitation.

“How could she not? You’re beautiful and capable. My mother is going to love you.”

The guests around them joined in one after another.

“Vanessa, you’re so much better than a jealous housewife like Olivia.”

“Margaret won’t object.”

“Looks like tonight isn’t just a birthday party. It might turn into an engagement party too!”

“When Margaret gets here, maybe we’ll have one more thing to celebrate!”

Just then, Ethan’s phone rang.

As soon as he saw the caller ID, he answered.

“Well? Did you find my mother? Where is she?”

As he spoke, he deliberately glanced at me, then put the call on speaker. He clearly wanted everyone

to hear the answer.

But the other end of the line was silent for several seconds before a man finally spoke, his voice

hesitant.

“Mr. Walker, we still haven’t found Margaret. But… we found the gold pendant she wears every day at the Lakeshore Restaurant.”
