My Don Forgot Who Gave Him Everything Chapter 07

My Don Forgot Who Gave Him Everything Chapter 07

The day we received the divorce decree, the weather was almost the same as the day we signed our marriage license.

It was early fall, not too hot and not yet cold.

The temperature, the sunlight, the breeze–everything was just right.

After the paperwork was finished, I had just stepped out of the law office when I saw Lila waiting by the entrance.

She looked eager, as if she hoped Matteo would immediately take her inside and sign new marital paperwork with her.

I walked instead toward Julian, who was waiting outside for

  1. me.

When Lila saw Julian, her eyes changed noticeably.

She probably had not expected the man waiting for me to be

every bit Matteo’s equal, and even steadier and more

respectable.

She said softly, “Is that Elena’s boyfriend?”

“She just got divorced, and she already has a boyfriend?”

I stopped.

Then I turned, walked up to her, and slapped her across the

face.

The crisp sound cracked through the entrance of the law

office.

“If you enjoy being someone’s mistress, that’s your

business.”

“That doesn’t mean everyone else is like you.”

I looked at Matteo.

“Keep your little sidepiece in line. I’m not the kind of person who shows mercy.”

After that, I ignored Matteo’s ugly expression, turned, got

into the car, and left.

In the car, I said to Julian, “You don’t need to hold back for my sake anymore.”

“Start withdrawing everything.”

The trouble Matteo’s company had been facing before was

only small–scale pressure, because everyone had been waiting for my divorce decree to arrive.

Now that everything was settled, they could act without

restraint.

In less than a month, I saw news about Matteo.

Nearly the entire business team at Rinaldi Data had resigned.

The dock payment line was suspended, and several platforms removed their new system on the grounds of compliance

reviews.

The new hires knew nothing. Even if they tried to get up to speed, it would take at least a month.

By then, there might not even be a company left.

Another half a month passed. After having dinner with Nora, I

returned home.

From a distance, I saw a figure lingering outside my door.

Only when the car got closer did I realize it was Matteo.

Why had he come to me instead of staying sweetly wrapped up with his beloved little sidepiece?

“Elena, you’re back.”

His voice was terribly hoarse when he spoke.

“Have you been doing well lately…”

The moment he opened his mouth, my head started to hurt.

“Stop.”

“Matteo, may I ask why you’re here?”

After I interrupted him, his expression went blank for a

moment.

“Were you behind what happened to my company?”

“What happened to your company?”

I frowned.

“Can you stop blaming me for everything? Do I look like I have

that much free time?”

Seeing the impatience written all over my face, Matteo seemed

a little at a loss.

“You know perfectly well that many of those partners used to

work with Rinaldi because of the weight of your name…”

“So?”

I cut him off.

“Now they’ve stopped giving you that courtesy. Is there a problem?”

I opened the door and was about to go inside.

Before I could close it, I heard Matteo say, “Lila broke up with

me.”

“After the company ran into trouble, she took a large amount of my money and ran.”

“She ended the pregnancy too. I reported her to the police.”

My hand paused on the door.

“What does that have to do with me?”

“From now on, there’s no need to tell an unrelated person like

me anything about the two of you.”

I was about to close the door, but suddenly remembered

something.

“Oh, right.”

“That day when we ran into each other in the OB–GYN department, you asked why I was there.”

Matteo froze for a long time.

As if something had finally occurred to him, his eyes reddened

all at once.

He could not say a single word.

I looked at him and calmly twisted the knife one last time.

“I was pregnant too.”

“I was thirteen weeks along.”

“Unfortunately, you found out too late.”

His lips trembled slightly.

“Elena…”

I closed the door.

The last thing I heard was him asking from outside, “Is there really no chance for us anymore?”

What was he thinking?

After everything that had happened, he was still thinking about getting back together.

I was not a masochist.

From then on, I never saw Matteo again.

I only kept hearing news about him from other people.

After Matteo called the police, they caught Lila and discovered

she was a career con artist.

She was sentenced to twenty years.
