My Dad Chose My Aunt 10 Times, Unaware I Stripped His Billion Legacy Chapter 06

Mom’s funeral was a grand affair, staged under the Whitmore family name.

On the day of the funeral, the crowd trickled in.

But they hadn’t come to mourn-they came to network, to climb, to get a foot in the door with the

Whitmores.

Dressed in plain black, I stood before the coffin in silence.

Above it hung Mom’s memorial portrait-her same gentle smile, as if she were still alive, still watching me with those warm eyes.

Behind me,

the guests came and went-all of it for status, for profit.

They didn’t bother with the fake sympathy until their eyes found me.

“Poor kid. She’s only ten years old, and her mother is already gone.”

“I heard she died in a car crash-protecting the kid.”

“But who knows? Maybe she just couldn’t take it, watching Nathaniel marry someone else. Offed herself, probably.”

“Quiet! Nathaniel hears that, and we’re all done for.”

Only then did the gossipers shut their mouths in panic.

Yet when they looked my way, their eyes still carried amusement and contempt.

I don’t know how long passed.

The crowd had thinned.

I stayed before her portrait, listening numbly to the funeral hymn drifting through the hall.

Then suddenly, a shadow fell over me. Fiona.

I didn’t move.

My eyes remained fixed on Mom’s portrait.

But Fiona had no intention of leaving me alone.

With a bright smile, she said, “Vivienne-how did it feel? Watching your mother die right in fron of you?”

My heart lurched.

I looked up into her triumphant eyes.

“So it really was you.”

Fiona blinked, all innocence.

Her voice dripped with false sorrow-and poorly concealed satisfaction.

“I didn’t do anything. Eliza’s dead, and I’m heartbroken too. Don’t be so upset.”

I looked at her with perfect calm. Then a small smile crossed

my

face.

“Aunt Fiona-I liked you better when you were begging my mother.”

The smile vanished from Fiona’s face.

For a split second, her expression twisted.

Then a hint of madness appeared.

“Heh… Your mother spent the last year begging me because of your illness.”

Her words hit me hard.

“What did you say?” My voice shook.

“You-you’re the one who cut off my medicine?”

“Mom was your sister! She was so good to you. How could you-

“Shut up!”

Fiona’s slap cut my words short.

I stared at her in shock.

She sneered. “I always hated that-her smug, self-righteous little act.”

Her cold eyes locked onto my face-a face nearly identical to Mom’s.

The disgust was unmistakable.

“We were sisters. Real sisters.”

“But no matter where we went, it was always Eliza. Only Eliza.”

“Why? Why did she get everything?”

“Everyone loved her-even Nathaniel.”

“The man I secretly loved for years-he fell for her, just because she saved his life.”

She stared at my bloodless face, her voice warped with unconcealed pleasure.

“She loved playing the saint, didn’t she?”

“Then she should’ve handed that life-saving credit right over to me.”

I stumbled backward until my back hit the wall.

There was nowhere left to retreat.

Still, I forced myself to stay calm.

“When Dad learns the truth, he’ll avenge Mom.”

Fiona froze-then burst out laughing until tears came.

At my bewildered look, she smiled, mocking.

“As long as everyone who knows the truth dies, who cares about the truth?”

“If I hadn’t caught you snooping around, I wouldn’t have had to rush things.”

She slowly looked around the funeral hall.

“Everyone here has been replaced-they’re all my people now.”

“So be a good girl-and die.”

A flash of silver slipped from her sleeve-and the blade plunged toward my heart.
