My Classmate Bragged About Her Dad’s Yacht, Unaware My Mom Paid for It Chapter 03

I was exhausted, so I found a chance to lean against a shaded spot at the stern and pulled up the bank records on my phone, checking the money Gregory had been siphoning away.

Every month, Gregory moved money out of my mother’s company accounts under one pretext or another.

In the past, Mom had looked the other way for the sake of their marriage.

Now it seemed every cent of that money had gone toward supporting Jasmine and her mother.

Suddenly, an entire glass of iced juice was dumped over my head.

The chill sent a violent shiver through me. Juice blurred my eyes, and the sticky mess spread over my whole body in an instant.

“Chloe, are you blind? Didn’t you see Ryan’s cup was empty? The whole class is working, and you’re hiding here playing on your phone?”

Jasmine held the empty glass and looked down at me, her eyes filled with vicious satisfaction.

I wiped the juice off my face and looked up, glaring at her. “Jasmine, don’t push it.”

A sharp slap cracked across the air.

Without the slightest hesitation, Jasmine slapped me across the face so hard that my ears rang.

“You’re eating my food and drinking my drinks. Now you think doing a little work is beneath you?”

I was about to hit her back when Ryan and several boys immediately stood up and surrounded me, their eyes full of threat.

Jasmine let out a smug little scoff, then turned around and clapped as if she had a big surprise to announce.

“Everyone, ignore this broke loser. Since we didn’t get into the VIP cabin today, I brought something special from my dad’s wine cellar to make it up to you.”

She walked over to the cooler and carefully lifted out an expensive presentation case.

When she opened it, a bottle of red wine lay inside. It had no label, only the vintage and the estate’s mark etched into the glass.

The moment I saw that bottle, I froze.

Mom had bought it at a Sotheby’s auction last month for almost half a million dollars. She had planned to open it next month for my grandfather’s eightieth birthday dinner.

Gregory had actually stolen it to help his illegitimate daughter keep up her rich-girl act.

Jasmine held up the bottle and showed it off in front of everyone.

“See this? My dad spent a fortune on this rare bottle.”

“Today, I’m opening it so everyone can have a taste.”

The boys’ eyes went wide, and they cried out one after another.

“Holy shit. A bottle worth that much? I’ve never even seen one in my life.”

“Jasmine, you’re a legend! All hail Jasmine!”

Jasmine basked in their praise and reached for an ordinary corkscrew.

“Don’t open it with that!” I rushed forward, desperate to stop her. “That wine is too old. The cork is fragile, and if you pull it out too hard, it’ll crumble.”

“Get the hell out of the way!”

Ryan kicked me hard in the calf, and the pain sent me crashing down onto my knees on the deck.

Jasmine gave me a contemptuous look. “Stop acting like some expert, you broke nobody. You’ve probably never even had a decent bottle of wine in your life.”

Ryan joined in too.

“Exactly. Poor people should keep their mouths shut instead of embarrassing themselves.”

Jasmine shot me a challenging look, then drove the corkscrew straight into the cork.

She yanked upward with force.

With a dull pop, the cork snapped.

Half of it came out, while the other half shattered into countless bits that fell into the wine.

Dark red wine overflowed from the mouth of the bottle, releasing a rich aroma.

But everyone knew the bottle was ruined.

The cork fragments had destroyed the wine’s flavor.

Jasmine stood frozen in place, holding half of the broken cork.

The boys around her were stunned too.

Something worth almost half a million dollars had just been ruined.

After a brief, dead silence, Jasmine suddenly lost control and hurled the corkscrew at me.

“Chloe! It’s all your fault, you jinx!”

“If you hadn’t been running your mouth beside me, I never would’ve messed up!”
